System and method for securely connecting to a peripheral device

A method by a device that is connectable between a host computer and a peripheral device using a standard bus and comprises first, second, and third modules a single enclosure, the method comprising:

• connecting, by a first connector in the first module, to the host computer via a first cable;
• transmitting messages to, and receiving messages from, the host computer, by a first transceiver in the first module that is coupled to the first connector, over the first cable using a first standard bus;
• storing, by a first memory in the first module, a first firmware;
• executing, by a first processor in the first module, the first firmware;
• controlling of, and communicating with, by the first processor, the first transceiver;
• emulating, by the first module, the peripheral device to the host computer;
• connecting, by a second connector in the second module, to the peripheral device via a second cable;
• transmitting messages to, and receiving messages from, the peripheral device, by a second transceiver in the second module that is coupled to the second connector, over the second cable using a second standard bus;
• storing, by a second memory in the second module, a second firmware;
• executing, by a second processor in the second module, the second firmware;
• controlling of, and communicating with, by the second processor, the second transceiver;
• emulating, by the second module, the host computer to the peripheral device;
• storing, by a third memory in the third module, a third firmware;
• executing, by a third processor in the third module, the third firmware;
• communicating, by the third module with the first module exclusively over a first local bus;
• and
• communicating, by the third module with the second module exclusively over a second local bus.
