Abstract
An adhesive composition comprising a polyurethane and a cationic polymeric dopant or a polymerizable cationic dopant may be used to form one or more adhesive layers of electro-optic assemblies. They enable improved electro-optic performance of the corresponding; electro-optic devices even at low temperatures.
Claims10
An electro-optic assembly comprising, in order, an electrically-conductive light-transmissive layer, an electro-optic material layer in electrical contact with the electrically-conductive light-transmissive layer. an adhesive laver, and a backplane substrate, the electro-optic material layer comprising an electrophoretic medium including a plurality of charged particles in a fluid, the adhesive layer comprising a polyurethane and a homopolymer, the homopolymer being formed during a curing process via polymerization of a polymerizable cationic dopant, the polymerizable cationic dopant being represented by Formula II,
- wherein
- R9 is hydrogen or a methyl group;
- R10 is an alkyl group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms;
- q is from 1 to 5;
- and
- Yn− is a counter ion, the counterion being selected from the group consisting of 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane sulfonic acid, hexafluorosilicic acid, tris(perfluoroalkyl)trifluorophosphate, 2,2,2-trifluoromethylsulfonyl-N-cyanoamide, heptadecafluorooctanesulfonic acid, 1,1,1-trifluoro-N-((trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl)methanesulfonamide, bis(perfluoroethylsulfonyl)amide, bis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl]imide, bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide, fluorotrifluoromethylsulfonyl imide, (fluorosulfonyl)(pentafluoroethanesulfonyl)imide, (trifluoromethylsulfonyl)(pentafluoroethanesulfonyl)imide.
