Abstract
A process for preparing a sulfur copolymer, a sulfur copolymer, and a polymer composition containing one or more sulfur copolymers are provided. The process involves copolymerizing a cyclic monothiocarbonate compound of formula wherein R1 and R2 are independently of one another hydrogen. C1-C18-alkyl, C1-C18-alkyl substituted with halogen or interrupted with O or S; C6-C18-aryl or C6-C12-aryl substituted with C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C1-C4-alkylthio or halogen; with elemental sulfur in the presence of a polymerization initiator.
Claims19
A process for preparing a sulfur copolymer, the process comprising:
- copolymerizing a cyclic monothiocarbonate compound of formula
- wherein
- R1 and R2 are independently of one another hydrogen, C1-C18-alkyl, C1-C18-alkyl substituted with halogen or interrupted with O or S;
- C6-C18-aryl or C6-C12-aryl substituted with C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C1-C4-alkylthio, or halogen;
- with elemental sulfur in the presence of a polymerization initiator.
