Abstract
A machine for forming packing templates includes a infeed mechanism that can feed multiple feeds of sheet material into the machine without repositioning the infeed mechanism or forming creases or bends in the sheet material. The machine also includes a separation and cutting systems with one or more cutting tables and biased knives that cut the sheet material packaging templates. The machine also includes creasing roller(s) that forms creases in the sheet material. The machine also includes a system for reducing or eliminating the impact of irregularities in the sheet material.
Claims22
A packaging machine used to convert generally rigid sheet material into packaging templates for assembly into boxes or other packaging, the packaging machine comprising:
- a creasing system that forms transverse creases in the sheet material, the transverse creases being oriented across the sheet material and transverse to a length of the sheet material, the creasing system comprising:
- a support plate that supports the sheet material;
- a first creasing roller that is oriented across the sheet material and transverse to the length of the sheet material, the first creasing roller having a first creasing ridge extending radially therefrom, the first creasing roller being configured to rotate to engage the first creasing ridge with the sheet material to form a crease in the sheet material;
- and
- a second creasing roller that is oriented across the sheet material and transverse to the length of the sheet material, the second creasing roller having a second creasing ridge extending radially therefrom, the second creasing roller being configured to rotate to engage the second creasing ridge with the sheet material to form a crease in the sheet material.
- a support plate that supports the sheet material;
- and
- a first creasing roller that is oriented across the sheet material and transverse to the length of the sheet material, the first creasing roller having a first creasing ridge extending radially therefrom, the first creasing roller being configured to rotate to engage the first creasing ridge with the sheet material to form a crease in the sheet material.
A system for making box templates, the system comprising:
- an infeed system configured to individually advance sheet materials from at least two supplies of sheet material;
- a separation unit configured to cut the sheet materials into desired lengths;
- one or more longitudinal blades that are selectively movable in a transverse direction to be able to make longitudinal cuts at different transverse locations on the sheet materials;
- one or more longitudinal creasing wheels that are selectively movable in a transverse direction to be able to make longitudinal creases at different transverse locations on the sheet materials;
- first and second creasing rollers extending transversely to extend transversely across the sheet materials, the first and second creasing rollers being configured to rotate to form transverse creases in the sheet materials;
- and
- one or more sets of cutting units configured to form transverse cuts in the sheet materials, each set of cutting units comprising a first cutting unit and a second cutting unit, the first and second cutting units being disposed on opposite sides of the sheet material and extending at least partially thereover.
