Electrochromic devices with patterned electrically conductive layers

A method of forming an electrochromic device, comprising:

• patterning sets of scribed lines into a first transparent electrically conductive layer disposed on a first transparent substrate, wherein the sets of scribed lines in the first transparent electrically conductive layer are made up of a series of segments;
• patterning sets of scribed lines into a second transparent electrically conductive layer disposed on a second transparent substrate, wherein the sets of scribed lines in the second transparent electrically conductive layer are made up of a series of segments;
• coupling a first bus bar to the first transparent electrically conductive layer, wherein the sets of scribed lines in the first transparent electrically conductive layer are substantially parallel to the first bus bar;
• coupling a second bus bar to the second transparent electrically conductive layer, wherein the sets of scribed lines in the second transparent electrically conductive layer are substantially parallel to the second bus bar;
• forming a first electrochromic layer on the first transparent electrically conductive layer;
• and
• assembling the electrochromic device, wherein the assembling the electrochromic device comprises coupling the first electrochromic layer to the second transparent electrically conductive layer,
• wherein adjacent sets of scribed lines in the first transparent electrically conductive layer determine the resistance to the flow of electrons traversing the adjacent sets of scribed lines in the first transparent electrically conductive layer in the direction substantially perpendicular to the first bus bar in the first electrically conductive layer, and
• wherein adjacent sets of scribed lines in the second transparent electrically conductive layer determine the resistance to the flow of electrons traversing the adjacent sets of scribed lines in the second transparent electrically conductive layer in the direction substantially perpendicular to the second bus bar in the second electrically conductive layer.
