Abstract
Provided herein are novel synthetic compounds having the structure of formula (1), wherein X is a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic or heteroaromatic mono- or polycyclic ring system; and Y is substituted or unsubstituted C5-C10 alkyl or alkenyl group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. Also provided are pharmaceutical compositions. The compounds and pharmaceutical compositions are useful for inhibiting growth of a bacterium.
Claims17
A compound having the structure of formula (1),
- wherein X is a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic or heteroaromatic mono- or polycyclic ring system;
- and
- Y is a 2,6-octadienyl group comprising one or more alkyl branches,
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof,
- with the proviso that the compound is not 2-[3,5-dihydroxy-4-(3,7-dimethyl-2,6-octadienyl)phenyl]-6-hydroxybenzofuran.
A method for inhibiting growth of a bacterium, comprising contacting the bacterium with a compound having the structure of formula (1),
- wherein X is a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic or heteroaromatic mono- or polycyclic ring system;
- and
- Y is a 2,6-octadienyl group comprising one or more alkyl branches,
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
