## Abstract

Methods and apparatuses are provided for generating a protocol data unit (PDU). A method may include transmitting a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) include information associated with one or more logical channels. The MAC PDU to be transmitted may be assembled by determining an amount of information associated with one of the one or more logical channels to be included in the MAC PDU; and multiplexing one or more complete service data units (SDUs) associated with at least the one of the one or more logical channels into the MAC PDU. On a condition that multiplexing an additional SDU associated with the one of the one or more logical channels would exceed the determined amount of information, the one or more complete SDUs may be multiplexed with a segment of the additional SDU associated with the one of the one or more logical channels and a header indicating that the segment is not a last segment of the additional SDU.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:
a processor; and
a transceiver;
the processor and the transceiver configured to transmit a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) comprising information associated with one or more logical channels, wherein the processor is configured to assemble the MAC PDU to be transmitted by:
determining an amount of information associated with one of the one or more logical channels to be included in the MAC PDU; and
multiplexing one or more complete service data units (SDUs) associated with at least the one of the one or more logical channels into the MAC PDU, wherein, on a condition that multiplexing an additional SDU associated with the one of the one or more logical channels would exceed the determined amount of information, the one or more complete SDUs are multiplexed with a segment of the additional SDU associated with the one of the one or more logical channels and a header indicating that the segment is not a last segment of the additional SDU.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the MAC PDU is a first MAC PDU, wherein the processor and the transceiver configured to transmit a second MAC PDU, and wherein the processor is configured to assemble the second MAC PDU to be transmitted by multiplexing a remaining segment of the additional SDU associated with the one of the one or more logical channels into the second MAC PDU.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The WTRU of claim 2, wherein the header includes a field indicating a sequence number associated with the segment of the additional SDU and the second MAC PDU includes a header including a field indicating a sequence number associated with the remaining segment of the additional SDU.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the determined amount of information associated with the one of the one or more logical channels to be included in the MAC PDU is a total amount of information provided by one or more complete MAC SDUs that are pending for transmission.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the amount of information associated with the one of the one or more logical channels to be included in the MAC PDU is indicated to a segmentation entity controlled by the processor.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

The WTRU of claim 2, wherein the transceiver is further configured to receive at least one negative acknowledgment (NACK) message indicating that a segment of the additional SDU was not received, wherein the transceiver and the processor are further configured to transmit, in response to the NACK message, another MAC PDU including the segment of the additional SDU that was not received.

### Claim 7 (depends on 2)

The WTRU of claim 2, wherein the transceiver is further configured to receive at least one acknowledgement (ACK) message indicating that a segment of the additional SDU was received.

### Claim 8 (depends on 2)

The WTRU of claim 2, wherein the processor and the transceiver are configured to transmit one or more MAC PDUs after the transmission of the first MAC PDU and before the transmission of the second MAC PDU.

### Claim 9

A method performed by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:
transmitting a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) comprising information associated with one or more logical channels, wherein the MAC PDU to be transmitted is assembled by:
determining an amount of information associated with one of the one or more logical channels to be included in the MAC PDU; and
multiplexing one or more complete service data units (SDUs) associated with at least the one of the one or more logical channels into the MAC PDU, wherein, on a condition that multiplexing an additional SDU associated with the one of the one or more logical channels would exceed the determined amount of information, the one or more complete SDUs are multiplexed with a segment of the additional SDU associated with the one of the one or more logical channels and a header indicating that the segment is not a last segment of the additional SDU.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9, wherein the MAC PDU is a first MAC PDU, further comprising transmitting a second MAC PDU, and wherein the second MAC PDU to be transmitted is assembled by multiplexing a remaining segment of the additional SDU associated with the one of the one or more logical channels into the second MAC PDU.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, wherein the header includes a field indicating a sequence number associated with the segment of the additional SDU and the second MAC PDU includes a header including a field indicating a sequence number associated with the remaining segment of the additional SDU.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)
