The content-management system may then determine a technical characteristic of the content-presentation device and select supplemental content based at least in part on at least the determined technical characteristic of the content-presentation device. The content-management system may then cause the selected supplemental content to be transmitted to the content-presentation device to facilitate the content-presentation device performing a content modification operation. ## Claims ### Claim 1 A method comprising: receiving, from a content-presentation device, a request for supplemental content for use in connection with an identified opportunity to modify an upcoming modifiable content segment that is part of a linear sequence of content segments received on a channel to which the content-presentation device is tuned; determining a technical characteristic of the content-presentation device by determining that the content-presentation device is capable of presenting interactive content; selecting a supplemental content segment for use by the content-presentation device in modifying the upcoming modifiable content segment based on the supplemental content segment having a parameter corresponding to the technical characteristic of the content-presentation device; and causing the supplemental content segment to be transmitted to the content-presentation device to facilitate the content-presentation device performing a content modification operation. ### Claim 2 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein determining the technical characteristic of the content-presentation device further comprises: receiving, from the content-presentation device, at least one identifier associated with the content-presentation device; and mapping the at least one identifier associated with the content-presentation device to the technical characteristic of the content-presentation device. ### Claim 3 (depends on 2) The method of claim 2, wherein the at least one identifier associated with the content-presentation device comprises a model identifier of the content-presentation device. ### Claim 4 (depends on 2) The method of claim 2, wherein the at least one identifier associated with the content-presentation device comprises a firmware identifier of the content-presentation device. ### Claim 5 (depends on 2) The method of claim 2, wherein the at least one identifier associated with the content-presentation device comprises a unique content-presentation device identifier of the content-presentation device. ### Claim 6 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein determining the technical characteristic of the content-presentation device further comprises determining that the content-presentation device is capable of presenting content of a particular video resolution. ### Claim 7 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein determining the technical characteristic of the content-presentation device further comprises determining that the content-presentation device comprises a threshold amount of memory. ### Claim 8 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein determining the technical characteristic of the content-presentation device further comprises determining that the content-presentation device comprises a threshold amount of processing power. ### Claim 9 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein determining the technical characteristic of the content-presentation device further comprises determining that the content-presentation device comprises a touch-sensitive screen. ### Claim 10 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, further comprising: accessing demographic data associated with the content-presentation device, wherein selecting the supplemental content segment comprises selecting the supplemental content segment based at least in part on the demographic data. ### Claim 11 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the content-presentation device comprises a television set, and wherein the supplemental content segment comprises video content. ### Claim 12 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the supplemental content segment comprises the interactive content. ### Claim 13 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, further comprising: receiving, by the content-presentation device, the transmitted supplemental content segment; and performing, by the content-presentation device, the content modification operation using the received supplemental content segment. ### Claim 14 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the content-presentation device is a first content-presentation device, the request for supplemental content is a first request for supplemental content, and the supplemental content segment is a first supplemental content segment, and wherein the method further comprises: receiving, from a second content-presentation device, a second request for supplemental content; determining a technical characteristic of the second content-presentation device; selecting a second supplemental content segment, different than the first supplemental content segment, based on the second supplemental content segment having the parameter corresponding to the technical characteristic of the second content-presentation device; and causing the second supplemental content segment to be transmitted to the second content-presentation device to facilitate the second content-presentation device performing a second content modification operation. ### Claim 15 (depends on 14) The method of claim 14, wherein the first supplemental content segment comprises the interactive content and the second supplemental content segment does not comprise the interactive content. ### Claim 16 (depends on 14) The method of claim 14, wherein determining the technical characteristic of the first content-presentation device further comprises determining that the first content-presentation device is capable of presenting content of a first video resolution, and wherein determining the technical characteristic of the second content-presentation device comprises determining that the second content-presentation device is capable of presenting content of a second video resolution, lower than the first video resolution. ### Claim 17 (depends on 16) The method of claim 16, wherein the first supplemental content segment comprises first video content having a resolution between the first video resolution and the second video resolution, and the second supplemental content segment comprises video content having a resolution lower than the second video resolution. ### Claim 18 A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, having stored thereon program instructions that, upon execution by at least one processor, cause performance of a set of operations comprising: receiving, from a content-presentation device, a request for supplemental content for use in connection with an identified opportunity to modify an upcoming modifiable content segment that is part of a linear sequence of content segments received on a channel to which the content-presentation device is tuned; determining a technical characteristic of the content-presentation device by determining that the content-presentation device is capable of presenting interactive content; selecting a supplemental content segment for use by the content-presentation device in modifying the upcoming modifiable content segment based on the supplemental content segment having a parameter corresponding to the technical characteristic of the content-presentation device; and causing the supplemental segment content to be transmitted to the content-presentation device to facilitate the content-presentation device performing a content modification operation. ### Claim 19 A computing system comprising: at least one processor; and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, having stored thereon program instructions that, upon execution by the at least one processor, cause performance of a set of operations comprising: receiving, from a content-presentation device, a request for supplemental content for use in connection with an identified opportunity to modify an upcoming modifiable content segment that is part of a linear sequence of content segments received on a channel to which the content-presentation device is tuned; determining a technical characteristic of the content-presentation device by determining that the content-presentation device is capable of presenting interactive content; selecting a supplemental content segment for use by the content-presentation device in modifying the upcoming modifiable content segment based on the supplemental content segment having a parameter corresponding to the technical characteristic of the content-presentation device; and causing the supplemental content segment to be transmitted to the content-presentation device to facilitate the content-presentation device performing a content modification operation.
