## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of making a 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-hexyl-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4-phenyl-1H-imidazole compound, the method comprising:
mixing 4-methoxybenzil, 4-nitrobenzaldehyde, ammonium acetate, and hexylamine in a pyridinium ionic liquid to obtain a blend;
heating the blend in an oil bath to form a precipitate;
washing and recrystallizing the precipitate; and
obtaining the 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-hexyl-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4-phenyl-1H-imidazole compound.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of making the 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-hexyl-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4-phenyl-1H-imidazole compound of claim 1, wherein the solution is heated in an oil bath for about 10 minutes.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of making the 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-hexyl-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4-phenyl-1H-imidazole compound of claim 1, wherein the solution is heated in an oil bath at about 100° C.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of making 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-hexyl-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4-phenyl-1H-imidazole compound of claim 1, wherein the precipitate is triple washed with water.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of making the 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-hexyl-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4-phenyl-1H-imidazole compound of claim 1, wherein the 4-methoxybenzil, the 4-nitrobenzaldehyde, the ammonium acetate, and the hexylamine are added in about a 1:1:1:1 molar ratio.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of making the 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-hexyl-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4-phenyl-1H-imidazole compound of claim 1, wherein the 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-hexyl-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4-phenyl-1H-imidazole compound is obtained in a yield of about 81%.
