## Abstract

A medical device system includes: an auxiliary rail including a frame and a flange extending from the frame; and a surgical arm mounting device including a coupler and a surgical arm interface. The frame is configured to be mounted on a side rail of an operating table. The coupler includes a clamp for the flange of the auxiliary table rail. The clamp of the coupler has a first mechanical state in which the mounting device is fixed to the auxiliary rail and a second mechanical state in which the mounting device is translatable along the auxiliary rail. The surgical arm interface receives a mating mounting device interface of a surgical arm.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A medical device system, comprising:
an auxiliary rail comprising a frame and a flange extending from the frame; and
a surgical arm mounting device comprising a coupler and a surgical arm interface;
wherein the frame of the auxiliary rail is configured to be operatively coupled to a side rail of an operating table;
wherein the coupler of the surgical arm mounting device comprises a clamp mounted to the flange of the auxiliary rail;
wherein the clamp of the coupler has a first mechanical state in which the surgical arm mounting device is fixed to the auxiliary rail and a second mechanical state in which the surgical arm mounting device is supported by the auxiliary rail and translatable along the auxiliary rail; and
wherein the surgical arm interface receives a mating mounting device interface of a surgical arm.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the frame of the auxiliary rail comprises a clamp for the side rail of the operating table, the clamp of the frame being separate from the clamp of the coupler.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The system of claim 2, wherein the clamp of the frame has a first mechanical state in which the auxiliary rail is fixed to the side rail of the operating table and a second mechanical state in which the auxiliary rail is removable from the side rail.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, further comprising:
a brace extending from the auxiliary rail at least part way across a width of the operating table.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the auxiliary rail comprises a first auxiliary rail and the side rail of the operating table comprises a first side rail, and further comprising:
a second auxiliary rail comprising a second frame and a second flange extending from the second frame, the second frame configured to be operatively coupled to a second side rail of the operating table, the second side rail located at an opposite side of the operating table than the first side rail.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The system of claim 5, further comprising:
a brace coupling the first and second auxiliary rails.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The system of claim 6, wherein the brace extends underneath the operating table.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein stiffness of the auxiliary rail is greater than stiffness of the side rail of the operating table.

### Claim 9 (depends on 3)

The system of claim 3, wherein, when the clamp of the frame is in the first mechanical state, the frame of the auxiliary rail is adjacent to a portion of the operating table, such that a load associated with the surgical arm causes the operating table to exert a reactionary force against the frame.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, further comprising the operating table.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, further comprising the surgical arm.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein in the first mechanical state, the clamp of the coupler is fixed to the auxiliary rail through a surgical drape; and wherein in the second mechanical state, the clamp is translatable along the auxiliary rail over the surgical drape.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the surgical arm mounting device further comprises first and second ports for a transportable medium and a conduit for the transportable medium extending between the first and second ports.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, wherein the conduit extends from the first port to the second port through an interior of the surgical arm mounting device.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, wherein the conduit comprises at least one of a fluid conduit or an electrical conduit.

### Claim 16

A method for mounting a teleoperated surgical arm to an operating table, the method comprising:
coupling a frame of an auxiliary rail to a side rail of an operating table;
coupling a mounting device to a flange extending from the frame of the auxiliary rail; and
mating a teleoperated surgical arm to the mounting device.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, wherein coupling the frame of the auxiliary rail to a side rail of an operating table comprises:
sliding the frame along a length of the side rail; and
clamping the frame against the side rail.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, wherein coupling the frame of the auxiliary rail to a side rail of an operating table comprises:
bracing the frame against at least one other portion of the operating table.

### Claim 19 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, wherein the auxiliary rail comprises a first auxiliary rail and the side rail of the operating table comprises a first side rail, and further comprising:
coupling a second frame of a second auxiliary rail to a second side rail of the operating table, wherein the second side rail is located at an opposite side of the operating table than the first side rail.

### Claim 20 (depends on 19)

The method of claim 19, further comprising:
coupling a brace to the first auxiliary rail and the second auxiliary rail.

### Claim 21 (depends on 20)

The method of claim 20, wherein coupling the brace comprises:
coupling the brace underneath the operating table.
