## Abstract

Up until now, all varieties of Impatiens walleriana are susceptible to impatiens downy mildew cause by the water mold, Plasmopara obducens. The present invention relates to novel Impatiens walleriana seed containing a genetic resistance to Plasmopara obducens. The present invention also relates to methods for creating novel Impatiens walleriana seed containing a genetic resistance to Plasmopara obducens and Impatiens walleriana seed produced by the method.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An Impatiens walleriana seed of variety AB1664-1 for which representative seed was deposited as NCIMB Accession No. 42721.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

An Impatiens walleriana plant grown from the seed of claim 1.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

A method for producing F1 hybrid Impatiens walleriana seed comprising crossing a first parent Impatiens plant with a second parent Impatiens walleriana plant and harvesting the resultant F1 hybrid Impatiens walleriana plant, and wherein the first or second parent is the plant of claim 2.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

An F1 Impatiens walleriana plant produced by growing the seed of claim 3.
