## Abstract

Mechanisms for interpreting queries are provided. In some implementations, a method for interpreting queries is provided, comprising: receiving a search query in a search domain; determining search terms based on the search query; determining, for each of the search terms, whether a search term corresponds to an entity name, wherein the entity name is derived from metadata associated with the search domain; in response to determining that entity names correspond to a portion of the search terms, determining an entity type and an entity score associated with each of the corresponding entity names; determining a remaining portion of the entity names by removing at least one of the matching entity names based on the entity score and contextual information in the search query; and performing a search in the search domain with the remaining portion of entity names, wherein each entity name in the remaining portion of entity names is searched corresponding to the associated entity type.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for interpreting search queries, the method comprising:
generating a data structure representing an entity table associated with a search domain, the entity table indicating:
an entity name,
a first entity type associated with the entity name,
a first entity score indicating a popularity of the entity name, within the search domain, with respect to the first entity type,
a second entity type associated with the entity name and different from the first entity type, and
a second entity score indicating a popularity of the entity name, within the search domain, with respect to the second entity type;
receiving, using a processor, a search query;
determining, based on the data structure, that a first search term within the search query and a second search term within the search query each corresponds to the entity name; and
modifying the search query by removing the first search term from the search query based on the first entity score and without removing the second search term from the search query based on the second entity score.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first entity score is an indication of relatedness between the entity name and the first entity type based at least in part on the popularity of the entity name, within the search domain, with respect to the first entity type.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the generating the data structure representing the entity table includes:
retrieving metadata corresponding to the search domain;
extracting the entity name based on the metadata;
determining, for the entity name, the first entity type and the first entity score;
determining, for the entity name, the second entity type and the second entity score; and
storing, within the data structure, a representation of the entity table.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein the generating the data structure representing the entity table further includes supplementing the entity table with curated entity information, wherein the curated entity information includes ignored terms in the search query.

### Claim 5 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein the generating the data structure representing the entity table further includes:
determining the search domain from a plurality of search domains based on the search query; and
generating the entity table as one of a plurality of entity tables based on the search domain.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the second entity score represents a higher indication of relatedness between the entity name and the second entity type than is represented by the first entity score between the entity name and the first entity type.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first search term and the second search term are overlapping search terms that each relate to the entity name.

### Claim 8

A system for interpreting queries, the system comprising:
a processor that, when executing computer-executable stored in a memory, is configured to:
generate a data structure representing an entity table associated with a search domain, the entity table indicating:
an entity name,
a first entity type associated with the entity name,
a first entity score indicating a popularity of the entity name, within the search domain, with respect to the first entity type,
a second entity type associated with the entity name and different from the first entity type, and
a second entity score indicating a popularity of the entity name, within the search domain, with respect to the second entity type;
receive a search query;
determine, based on the data structure, that a first search term within the search query and a second search term within the search query each corresponds to the entity name; and
modify the search query by removing the first search term from the search query based on the first entity score and without removing the second search term from the search query based on the second entity score.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8, wherein the first entity score is an indication of relatedness between the entity name and the first entity type based at least in part on the popularity of the entity name, within the search domain, with respect to the first entity type.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8, wherein the processor is configured to generate the data structure representing the entity table by:
retrieving metadata corresponding to the search domain;
extracting the entity name names based on the metadata;
determining, for the entity name, the first entity type and the first entity score;
determining, for the entity name, the second entity type and the second entity score; and
storing, within the data structure, a representation of the entity table.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The system of claim 10, wherein the processor is further configured to generate the data structure representing the entity table by supplementing the entity table with curated entity information, wherein the curated entity information includes ignored terms in the search query.

### Claim 12 (depends on 10)

The system of claim 10, wherein the processor is further configured to generate the data structure representing the entity table by:
determining the search domain from a plurality of search domains based on the search query; and
generating the entity table as one of a plurality of entity tables based on the search domain.

### Claim 13 (depends on 8)
