Abstract
A method of generating a pressurized, sub-cooled mixed-phase cryogen is disclosed, including providing a cryogenic system including a reservoir containing a liquid cryogen; and a heat exchange coil immersed in the liquid cryogen, the heat exchange coil having an input end and an output end not immersed in the liquid cryogen; introducing a pressurized gas cryogen to the input end of the heat exchange coil; cooling the pressurized gas cryogen within the heat exchange coil; and collecting the pressurized gas cryogen at an output end of the heat exchange coil.
Claims19
A method of generating a pressurized, mixed-phase cryogen, the method comprising:
- providing a cryogenic system, the cryogenic system further comprising:
- a reservoir containing a liquid cryogen;
- an enclosure in which the reservoir is disposed;
- and
- a heat exchange coil immersed in the liquid cryogen, the heat exchange coil having an input end and an output end not immersed in the liquid cryogen;
- introducing a pressurized gas to the input end of the heat exchange coil at a first pressure;
- cooling the pressurized gas within the heat exchange coil to generate a pressurized mixed-phase cryogen;
- collecting the pressurized mixed-phase cryogen within the heat exchange coil;
- releasing the pressurized, mixed-phase cryogen at an output end of the heat exchange coil, wherein the releasing further comprises releasing the pressurized mixed-phase cryogen from the output end of the heat exchange coil at a second, lower pressure;
- and
- returning the pressurized mixed-phase cryogen to the enclosure via a return line.
A method of generating a pressurized, mixed-phase cryogen for use with a cryoprobe, the method comprising:
- providing a cryogenic system, the cryogenic system further comprising:
- a reservoir containing a liquid cryogen;
- an enclosure in which the reservoir is disposed;
- and
- a heat exchange coil immersed in the liquid cryogen, the heat exchange coil having an input end and an output end not immersed in the liquid cryogen;
- introducing a pressurized gas to the input end of the heat exchange coil at a first pressure;
- cooling the pressurized gas within the heat exchange coil to form the pressurized, mixed-phase cryogen;
- delivering the pressurized, mixed-phase cryogen to a tip of the cryoprobe via a supply line;
- causing the pressurized, mixed-phase cryogen to exit the heat exchange coil at a second pressure that is lower than the first pressure;
- and
- returning the pressurized mixed-phase cryogen to the enclosure via a return line.
A method of generating a pressurized, mixed-phase cryogen for use with a cryoprobe, the method comprising:
- providing a cryogenic system, the cryogenic system further comprising:
- a reservoir containing a liquid cryogen;
- an enclosure in which the reservoir is disposed;
- and
- a heat exchange coil immersed in the liquid cryogen, the heat exchange coil having an input end and an output end not immersed in the liquid cryogen;
- introducing a pressurized gas to the input end of the heat exchange coil;
- cooling the pressurized gas within the heat exchange coil to form the pressurized, mixed-phase cryogen;
- delivering the pressurized, mixed-phase cryogen to a tip of the cryoprobe via a supply line;
- and
- returning the pressurized mixed-phase cryogen to the enclosure via a return line.
