Abstract
Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to an adhesive layer, bearing including the adhesive layer, and methods of forming. The adhesive layer can include a mixture of a first polymer, a second polymer, and a third polymer, wherein the second polymer includes ethylene tetrafluoroethylene, and the third polymer includes a modified ethylene tetrafluoroethylene, ethylene tetrafluoroethylene hexafluoropropylene, or a combination thereof. In a particular embodiment, the first polymer can include an aromatic polymer. In another embodiment, the adhesive layer can have a tensile stress in an extrusion direction of at least 30 MPa.

A bearing, comprising:
- a substrate layer comprising metal;
- and
- an adhesive layer disposed directly over the substrate layer,
- wherein the adhesive layer is a single layer comprising a mixture including:
- a first polymer, wherein the first polymer is not a fluoropolymer;
- a second polymer comprising ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE);
- and
- a third polymer comprising a modified ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (mETFE), an ethylene tetrafluoroethylene hexafluoropropylene (EFEP), or a combination thereof;
- and
- wherein the adhesive layer has at least one characteristic selected from the group consisting of:
- a melting temperature that is at least 20° C. higher than a melting temperature of the third polymer;
- a tensile stress in an extrusion direction of at least 30 MPa;
- a tensile stress in a transversal direction of at least 20 MPa;
- and
- a melting temperature that is at most 330° C.
A bearing, comprising a substrate comprising metal and an adhesive layer disposed directly over the substrate, wherein the adhesive layer is a single layer and comprises:
- a first polymer, wherein the first polymer is not a fluoropolymer;
- a second polymer comprising ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE);
- and
- a third polymer comprising a modified ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (mETFE), an ethylene tetrafluoroethylene hexafluoropropylene (EFEP), or a combination thereof;
- and
- wherein:
- the first polymer has a first content of at most 25 wt. % relative to a total weight of the adhesive layer;
- the second polymer has a second content of at least 60 wt. % of the total weight of the adhesive layer;
- and
- the third polymer has a third content of at most the first content.
A bearing, comprising:
- a substrate layer comprising metal;
- a sliding layer;
- and
- an adhesive layer directly disposed between the sliding layer and the substrate layer,
- wherein the adhesive layer is a single layer and comprises:
- a first polymer comprising a sulfone group, an ether group, or a combination thereof;
- a second polymer comprising ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE), wherein a ratio of a weight content of the second polymer to a weight content of the first polymer is from 4:1 to 12:1;
- and
- a third polymer comprising a modified ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (mETFE), an ethylene tetrafluoroethylene hexafluoropropylene (EFEP), or a combination thereof;
- and
- wherein the adhesive layer has at least one characteristic selected from the group consisting of:
- a melting temperature that is at least 20° C. higher than a melting temperature of the third polymer;
- a tensile stress in an extrusion direction of at least 30 MPa;
- a tensile stress in a transversal direction of at least 20 MPa;
- and
- a melting temperature that is at most 330° C.
