Abstract
Methods and systems for operating a dog clutch actuator are disclosed. In one example, the voltage that is supplied to a dog clutch actuator is gradually reduced when a dog clutch is returned to a base position via a return spring. The voltage may be reduced at a rate that is based on a temperature of a fluid in which a dog clutch may be submerged.
Claims19
A method for operating a dog clutch actuator, comprising:
- applying a voltage to the dog clutch actuator to operate the dog clutch actuator in a first state;
- and
- reducing an average value of the voltage to the dog clutch actuator at a predetermined rate to exit from the first state and to enter a second state, where the average value is reduced at a rate that is based on a temperature of a fluid in which a dog clutch is at least partially submerged.
An actuator system, comprising:
- a dog clutch;
- a dog clutch actuator;
- a circuit configured to supply a voltage to the dog clutch actuator;
- and
- a controller including executable instructions stored in non-transitory memory that cause the controller to adjust an average value of the voltage to decrease at a first rate, increase, and decrease at a second rate when adjusting the dog clutch actuator from a first state to a second state.

- a controller including executable instructions stored in non-transitory memory that cause the controller to adjust an average value of the voltage to decrease at a first predetermined rate in response to a first set of operating conditions, and adjust the average value of the voltage to decrease at a second predetermined rate in response to a second set of operating conditions.
