## Abstract

An antibody or a fragment thereof having immunoreactivity to a polypeptide comprising not less than 7 continuous amino acids in the CD179b protein, which was identified as a cancer antigen protein specifically expressed on the surfaces of cancer cells, can be used as a pharmaceutical composition for therapy and/or prophylaxis of cancer.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for therapy of human leukemia expressing CD179b protein comprising administering to a human patient having said leukemia an effective amount of an antibody, said antibody having immunoreactivity to a CD179b protein having the amino acid sequence shown in SEQ ID NO:3, wherein the antibody has an Fc effector domain capable of mediating antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) by effector cells and complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) against CD179b-expressing cells sufficient to suppress or regress tumors in a living body, and wherein said leukemia is chronic lymphocyte leukemia, wherein said antibody comprises a heavy chain variable region having the amino acid sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 105 and a light chain variable region having the amino acid sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 109.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, further comprising administering a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein said antibody is a human antibody, humanized antibody, chimeric antibody, single-chain antibody or bispecific antibody.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein said antibody is a monoclonal antibody.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein said antibody is conjugated to a cytotoxic moiety capable of inhibiting the proliferation and/or survival of the leukemia cells.
