## Abstract

An autoinjector comprises a housing, a product container, a displaceable needle protection sleeve, a plunger rod displaceable by a preloaded discharge spring, a dose setting element with at least two different rotational positions relative to the housing, and a dosing sleeve. The dosing sleeve or the plunger rod has a dose selection stop, and the other has at least one dosing stop. By rotating the dose setting element, the dosing sleeve or the plunger rod is rotated relative to the other. Upon displacement of the needle protection sleeve, the spring displaces the plunger rod, whereby, if the dose setting element is in the first rotational position, the dose selection stop and the first dosing stop strikes against each other, and, if the dose setting element is in the second rotational position, one of the dose selection stop and the first dosing stop is or can be moved past the other.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An autoinjector device for dispensing a liquid product, in particular medication, the autoinjector comprising:
a housing;
a product container holder for holding a product container comprising a needle arranged at a distal end and a displaceably arranged piston;
a needle protection sleeve, which is displaceable into the housing from an initial position in which a distal end of the needle protection sleeve is disposed distally beyond a tip of the needle;
a plunger rod; and
a prestressed dispensing spring,
wherein the plunger rod is arranged in the housing and is displaceable by the prestressed dispensing spring along a longitudinal axis (L) in a distal direction, wherein, as a result of a displacement of the plunger rod in the distal direction, the piston is entrained by the plunger rod and dispenses the product from the product container,
wherein as the needle protection sleeve is moved in a proximal direction into the housing, a locking sleeve is caused to be displaced from a position in which the locking sleeve prevents a first engagement member of a holding element from being moveable out of a recess in the plunger rod and into a release position, and
wherein the locking sleeve in the release position enables a movement of the first engagement member out of the recess, whereby the displacement of the plunger rod in the distal direction causes the product to be dispensed from the product container.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The autoinjector of claim 1, wherein the product container holder is connected to the housing in an axially fixed manner, the needle protrudes beyond a distal end of the housing, and the needle protection sleeve is displaceable from the initial position into the housing so that the needle protrudes from the distal end of the needle protection sleeve.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The autoinjector of claim 2, wherein the needle is inserted into an insertion site when the needle protection sleeve is placed on the insertion site and moved into the housing by a user pressing the housing in the direction of the insertion site.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The autoinjector of claim 1, wherein the product container holder is configured to position the product container in the housing such that the needle protrudes beyond a distal end of the housing, and wherein the needle is inserted into an insertion site when the needle protection sleeve is placed on the insertion site and moved into the housing by a user pressing the housing in the direction of the insertion site.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The autoinjector of claim 4, wherein the product container is configured as a syringe body with a syringe flange at a proximal end thereof, wherein the syringe body is accommodated in the product container holder up to the syringe flange, and wherein the product container is prevented from moving along the longitudinal axis (L) in the distal direction relative to the product container holder.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The autoinjector of claim 4, further comprising a needle protection spring biasing the needle protection sleeve towards the initial position, wherein after inserting the needle into the insertion site and dispensing the product from the product container, the needle protection spring shifts the needle protection sleeve towards the initial position as the housing is lifted from the insertion site and the needle protection sleeve covers the needle tip, and wherein the needle protection sleeve is blocked from shifting in the proximal direction and exposing the needle tip therefrom.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The autoinjector of claim 1, wherein the prestressed dispensing spring contains a sufficient amount of energy in an initial state such that, upon release of the dispensing spring, the product contained in the product container can be discharged completely by the displacement of the plunger rod in the distal direction.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The autoinjector of claim 7, further comprising a needle protection spring biasing the needle protection sleeve towards the initial position, wherein upon dispensing the product from the product container and lifting the housing from a needle insertion site, the needle protection spring shifts the needle protection sleeve towards the initial position as the housing is lifted from the insertion site and the needle protection sleeve covers the needle tip, and wherein the needle protection sleeve is blocked from shifting proximally and exposing the needle tip therefrom.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The autoinjector of claim 1, further comprising a needle protection spring biasing the needle protection sleeve towards the initial position, wherein upon dispensing the product from the product container and lifting the housing from a needle insertion site, the needle protection spring shifts the needle protection sleeve towards the initial position as the housing is lifted from the insertion site and the needle protection sleeve covers the needle tip, and wherein the needle protection sleeve is blocked from shifting proximally and exposing the needle tip therefrom.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The autoinjector of claim 1, further comprising a sleeve-shaped mechanism holder axially fixed to the housing and configured to receive at least a portion of the plunger rod and the prestressed dispensing spring, wherein the locking sleeve and the mechanism holder are arranged concentrically and as the locking sleeve is caused to be displaced by the needle protection sleeve moving into the housing, the locking sleeve slides proximally along the longitudinal axis (L) relative to the mechanism holder to the release position.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The autoinjector of claim 10, wherein at least one of the sleeve-shaped mechanism holder or the locking sleeve is used in causing the autoinjector to generate an acoustic and/or tactile signal that signals a start of dispensing of the product from the product container.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The autoinjector of claim 1, wherein the first engagement element is moved out of the recess of the plunger rod by a movement away from the longitudinal axis (L).

### Claim 13

A method of dispensing a liquid product, in particular medication, from an autoinjector comprising:
positioning a needle protection sleeve of the autoinjector on an insertion site in an initial position of the needle protection sleeve in which a distal end of the needle protection sleeve is disposed distally beyond a tip of a needle of a product container, wherein the needle protection sleeve is displaceable into the housing from the initial position; and
pressing a housing towards the insertion site such that the needle protection sleeve moves into the housing and the tip of the needle protrudes from a distal end of the needle protection sleeve, wherein the housing comprises a product container holder for holding the product container, a plunger rod, and a prestressed dispensing spring,
wherein as the needle protection sleeve is moved into the housing, a locking sleeve is caused to be displaced from a position in which the locking sleeve prevents a first engagement member of a holding element from being moveable out of a recess in the plunger rod and into a release position, and
