## Abstract

A system for irrigating a patient's skin. The system includes a fluid container that includes a first compartment and a second compartment, the first compartment being adapted to retain a first fluid on a first side of a divider and the second compartment being adapted to retain a second fluid on a second side of the divider. The system also includes an irrigation sleeve adapted cover a portion of the patient's skin. The system also includes a fluid charging portion adapted to receive a portion of the first fluid and a portion of the second fluid, wherein the portion of the first fluid reacts with the portion of the second fluid to form a charged compound in the fluid charging portion. The system also includes a compound delivery portion that extends at a first end of the compound delivery portion from the fluid charging portion, the compound delivery portion being adapted to deliver the charged compound from the fluid charging portion to the irrigation sleeve.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for irrigating a surgical wound, the method comprising:
retaining a first fluid on a first side of a divider;
retaining a second fluid on a second side of a divider, the second side of the divider being disposed opposite the first side of the divider;
drawing a portion of the first fluid and a portion of the second fluid into a fluid charging portion such that the first and second fluid portions react to form a charged compound;
and irrigating the surgical wound with the charged compound.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising preventing delivery of the charged compound to the surgical wound once a charge of the charged compound decreases below a charge threshold.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising controlling flow of the charged compound from the fluid charging portion to the surgical wound with at least one control flow valve.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the surgical wound includes an operative wound.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the surgical wound includes a postoperative wound.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising applying the charged compound to the surgical wound continuously.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the charged compound includes a zinc compound that includes at least some free available zinc ions.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the charged compound includes at least one Eh raising component.
