The method can include topically applying to skin the composition, where the composition comprises an extract from Kunzea ericoides, Quassia undulata, Khaya senegalensis, Biophytum petersianum, Detarium microcarpum, Crossopteryx febrofiga, Allophylus africanus, Burkea Africana, Nauclea latifolia, Bombax costatum, Buchanania reticulata, Melanorrhoea laccifera, Machilus odoratissimus, Spondias pinnata, Canthium dicoccum, Parinari annamensis, Aporosa tetrapleura, Knema globularia, Garcinia gaudichaudii, Randia dasycarpa, Capparis micrantha, or Garcinia benthami. ## Claims ### Claim 1 A method of treating a skin condition comprising dermatitis, fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, melasmic skin, age spots, skin discoloration, freckles, and/or inflamed skin, the method comprising topically applying to skin having the skin condition a composition comprising an effective amount of an extract of Bombax costatum to treat the skin condition, wherein the extract of Bombax costatum is: a flower extract from Bombax costatum; an alcoholic extract; and/or an aqueous-alcoholic extract. ### Claim 2 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises glycerin and water. ### Claim 3 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the effective amount of the extract is 0.0001% to 20% by weight of the extract based on the total weight of the composition. ### Claim 4 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is a lotion or a cream. ### Claim 5 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is a gel or a serum. ### Claim 6 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is an emulsion. ### Claim 7 (depends on 6) The method of claim 6, wherein the composition is an oil-in-water emulsion. ### Claim 8 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is a deodorant or antiperspirant. ### Claim 9 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is a cleanser. ### Claim 10 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the extract of Bombax costatum is a flower extract from Bombax costatum. ### Claim 11 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the skin condition further comprises dry skin. ### Claim 12 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the skin condition is skin inflammation. ### Claim 13 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the skin condition further comprises erythema. ### Claim 14 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the skin condition further comprises pruritis. ### Claim 15 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the skin condition is atopic dermatitis or seborrheic dermatitis. ### Claim 16 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the skin condition further comprises acne. ### Claim 17 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the skin condition is melasma. ### Claim 18 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the Bombax costatum extract increases collagen production in the skin. ### Claim 19 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the Bombax costatum extract reduces COX-1 or TNF-α activity in the skin. ### Claim 20 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the Bombax costatum extract reduces oxidation in the skin. ### Claim 21 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the Bombax costatum extract reduces tyrosinase activity in the skin. ### Claim 22 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the flower extract from Bombax costatum is an aqueous extract. ### Claim 23 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the extract is an alcoholic extract. ### Claim 24 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the extract is an aqueous-alcoholic extract. ### Claim 25 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises at least 40% by weight of water.
