Abstract
Aspects described herein are directed to compositions, systems, and methods of manufacturing a polymer-based construction material comprising polymeric resin and filler such as calcium carbonate (CaCO3). A surface of the polymer-based construction material may be treated such that the surface energy is increased from the material's inherent value to a predetermined value of at least 40 dynes/cm2. Further, the surface energy of the treated surface may persist within 20% of the predetermined value for at least three days.

A method of preparing an extruded polymer-based construction material for future surface painting, the method comprising:
- in response to a treatment of a surface of the extruded polymer-based construction material, increasing a surface energy of the surface from a first surface energy to a second surface energy of at least 40 dynes/cm2, the polymer-based construction material comprising a polymeric composition including a polymeric resin and a filler;
- wherein the surface energy of the surface persists within 20% of the second surface energy for at least one month from the treatment of the surface.
An extruded polymer-based construction material comprising:
- a first surface, and
- a second surface opposite the first surface,
- wherein the first surface and the second surface comprise a polymeric composition comprising a polymeric resin and one or more fillers;
- wherein the first surface, the second surface, or both, exhibit a surface energy within 20% of 50 dynes/cm2 for at least one month.
An extruded polymer-based construction material comprising:
- a first surface;
- a second surface, wherein the first surface and the second surface are formed from an extruded polymeric composition comprising a polymeric resin in the range of 70%-75% by weight and calcium carbonate (CaCO3) in the range of 15%-13% by weight;
- the first surface having a first surface energy of at least 45 dynes/cm′ and the second surface having a second surface energy, the first surface energy is greater than the second surface energy and persists within 20% of the first surface energy for at least three months.
