Vane pump for medical instrument

A medical system comprising:

• a medical instrument including a distal end configured to be inserted into a body part of a living subject, the medical instrument including an irrigation channel and an aspiration channel configured to carry irrigation fluid to the distal end and remove aspirated matter from the distal end, respectively;
• an irrigation reservoir configured to store the irrigation fluid;
• a collection receptacle configured to collect the aspirated matter;
• a shared vane pump comprising a pump housing having an inner surface around a pumping chamber, the pump housing including:
• an irrigation inlet port coupled with the pumping chamber of the shared vane pump and coupled with the irrigation reservoir via a first irrigation line;
• an irrigation outlet port coupled with the pumping chamber of the shared vane pump and coupled with the irrigation channel of the medical instrument;
• an aspiration inlet port coupled with the pumping chamber of the shared vane pump and coupled with the aspiration channel;
• and
• an aspiration outlet port coupled with the pumping chamber of the shared vane pump and coupled with the collection receptacle via a first aspiration line, and wherein
• the shared vane pump is configured to simultaneously pump via the pumping chamber, at substantially the same flow rate, the irrigation fluid from the irrigation reservoir to the distal end of the medical instrument through the first irrigation line and the irrigation channel and the aspirated matter from the distal end of the medical instrument through the aspiration channel and the first aspiration line to the collection receptacle;
• an auxiliary vane pump comprising:
• at least one pumping chamber;
• an irrigation inlet port coupled with the at least one pumping chamber of the auxiliary vane pump and coupled with the irrigation reservoir via a second irrigation line;
• an irrigation outlet port coupled with the at least one pumping chamber of the auxiliary vane pump and coupled with the irrigation channel of the medical instrument;
• an aspiration inlet port coupled with the at least one pumping chamber of the auxiliary vane pump and coupled with the aspiration channel;
• and
• an aspiration outlet port coupled with the at least one pumping chamber of the auxiliary vane pump and coupled with the collection receptacle via a second aspiration line,
• the auxiliary vane pump configured to selectively pump the irrigation fluid from the irrigation reservoir to the distal end of the medical instrument through the second irrigation line and the irrigation channel, or the aspirated matter from the distal end of the medical instrument through the aspiration channel and the second aspiration line to the collection receptacle;
• and
• a pump controller configured to control operation of the shared vane pump and the auxiliary vane pump.
