Abstract
Disclosed herein are embodiments of a donor compound that releases COS and/or CS2, which can be converted to H2S. The donor compound embodiments described herein can be used to deliver H2S to a subject or a sample and further can be used to administer therapeutic agents. Methods of making and using the donor compound embodiments also are disclosed.
Claims13
A method for producing H2S from a COS- or CS2-releasing compound, the method comprising;
- exposing a sample or a subject to the COS- or CS2-releasing compound, which has a structure according to Formula 1, or a pharmaceutical composition thereof;
- and
- (i) measuring a detectable signal that is produced after the sample or the subject has been exposed to the COS- or CS2-releasing compound using UV-visible spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, phosphorescence spectroscopy, or a combination thereof, wherein the detectable signal indicates that COS or CS2 has been released from the COS- or CS2-releasing compound, and wherein the COS or CS2 provides the H2S;
- and/or
- (ii) measuring a concentration of H2S produced from the COS- or CS2-releasing compound using a methylene blue assay;
- wherein Formula 1 is
- wherein
- X is oxygen, sulfur, NR′ or N+(R′)2, wherein each R′ independently is hydrogen, aliphatic, haloaliphatic, haloheteroaliphatic, heteroaliphatic, aromatic, or any combination thereof;
- W is oxygen or sulfur;
- when Y is oxygen then W is sulfur;
- or when Y is sulfur then W is oxygen or sulfur;
- V is a heteroatom;
- R1, if present, is hydrogen, aliphatic, haloaliphatic, haloheteroaliphatic, heteroaliphatic, aromatic, or any combination thereof;
- R2 is aliphatic, aromatic, heteroaliphatic, or R1 and R2 when taken together with V is a heteroaliphatic group, or
- R2 and R1 together with V form a 4-, 5-, 6-, or 7-membered heterocyclic group;
- R3 is hydrogen, halogen, aliphatic, haloaliphatic, haloheteroaliphatic, heteroaliphatic, aromatic, or any combination thereof;
- R4 is hydrogen, halogen, aliphatic, haloaliphatic, haloheteroaliphatic, heteroaliphatic, aromatic, or any combination thereof;
- and
- each of R6 and R7 independently is hydrogen, aliphatic, haloaliphatic, haloheteroaliphatic, heteroaliphatic, aromatic, or any combination thereof.
