Abstract
Suture passer systems for tissue suspension and tissue compression are described. The system can include a shaft and a needle, wherein the needle is freely rotatable with respect to the shaft. The suture may include an overmolded segment. Methods of placing one or more implants, sutures, fastener, bone anchors and other devices are also described. The methods include moving tissue, including the superior pharyngeal constrictor muscle, palatopharyngeal arch, and palatoglossal arch. The methods include hyoid bone suspension.
Claims28
A method comprising:
- mounting a first bone anchor to a mandible;
- looping a first suture line around a hyoid bone such that tails of the first suture line are available for connection with the first bone anchor;
- adjusting a tension of the first suture line to lift the hyoid bone relative to the mandible;
- and
- connecting the first suture line to the first bone anchor.
A method comprising:
- mounting a first bone anchor to a mandible;
- looping a first suture line around a hyoid bone with a suture passing element, wherein the suture passing element comprises a complex configuration having a plurality of distal curved regions having differing radii of curvature;
- and
- adjusting a tension of the first suture line to change a position of the hyoid bone relative to the mandible.
A method comprising:
- mounting a first bone anchor to a mandible;
- mounting a second bone anchor to the mandible;
- looping a first suture line around a hyoid bone, wherein looping the first suture line around the hyoid bone comprises using a coiled suture passing element;
- looping a second suture line around the hyoid bone;
- adjusting a tension of the first suture line and the second suture line to change a position of the hyoid bone relative to the mandible, wherein the first suture line and the second suture line are slideable relative to the first bone anchor and the second bone anchor, respectively, to adjust the tension.
A method comprising:
- mounting a first bone anchor to a mandible;
- mounting a second bone anchor to the mandible, wherein the first bone anchor and the second bone anchor are placed on either side of a midline of the mandible;
- looping a first suture line around a hyoid bone;
- looping a second suture line around the hyoid bone;
- adjusting a tension of the first suture line and the second suture line to change the position of the hyoid bone relative to the mandible, wherein the first suture line and the second suture line are slideable relative to the first bone anchor and the second bone anchor, respectively, to adjust the tension.
A method comprising:
- mounting a first bone anchor to a mandible;
- mounting a second bone anchor to the mandible;
- looping a first suture line around a hyoid bone;
- looping a second suture line around the hyoid bone, wherein the first suture line and the second suture line are placed on either side of a midline of the hyoid bone;
- adjusting a tension of the first suture line and the second suture line to change the position of the hyoid bone relative to the mandible, wherein the first suture line and the second suture line are slideable relative to the first bone anchor and the second bone anchor, respectively, to adjust the tension.
A method comprising:
- mounting a first bone anchor to a mandible;
- mounting a second bone anchor to the mandible;
- looping a first suture line around a hyoid bone, wherein the first bone anchor is configured to lock and unlock relative to the first suture line;
- looping a second suture line around the hyoid bone;
- adjusting a tension of the first suture line and the second suture line to change the position of the hyoid bone relative to the mandible, wherein the first suture line and the second suture line are slideable relative to the first bone anchor and the second bone anchor, respectively, to adjust the tension.
