Abstract
The disclosed technology provides improved adhesive composition of use with dentures. These improved compositions include (a) a cross linked poly(acrylic) acid polymer, in combination with (b) a carbomethylcellulose (CMC) component and/or (c) an adherence promoting component. The compositions balance the many competing goals for effective denture adhesives, including adhesive strength and dispensing viscosity, without the need for zinc.
Claims8
A denture adhesive composition comprising:
- (a) 10 to 14 percent by weight of the overall composition of a cross-linked poly(acrylic) acid polymer, wherein the cross-linked poly(acrylic) acid polymer is a carbomer homopolymer, carbomer copolymer, carbomer interpolymer, or a mixture thereof;
- and
- (b) an additional component comprising (i) 17 to 25 percent by weight of the overall composition of a carboxymethylcellulose component;
- and (ii) 18 to 45 percent by weight of the overall composition of an adherence promoting component comprising sodium alginate;
- wherein the weight ratio of component (b) to component (a) is from 5:1 to 1:5.
