Method and apparatus for recovering profile in case of device change failure

A method performed by a server in a communication system, the method comprising:

• receiving, from a first device, a device change request for installing a profile in the first device onto a second device;
• transmitting, to the first device, a device change response corresponding to the device change request instructing to delete the profile from an embedded universal integrated circuit card (eUICC) in the first device;
• in case that the device change response includes an indication indicating support of a profile recovery, receiving, from the first device, a recovery request for recovery of the deleted profile based on a selection of the deleted profile for the profile recovery;
• and
• transmitting, to the first device, a recovery response for the recovery request including information for the recovery of the deleted profile,
• wherein a profile download and installation procedure is performed for the deleted profile, based on the information for the recovery of the deleted profile.

A first device in a communication system, the first device comprising:

• a transceiver;
• an embedded universal integrated circuit card (eUICC);
• and
• a controller operably connected to the transceiver and the eUICC, the controller configured to:
• transmit, to a server via the transceiver, a device change request for installing a profile associated with the first device onto a second device,
• receive, from the server via the transceiver, a device change response instructing to delete the profile, as a response to the device change request instructing to delete the profile,
• delete the profile from the eUICC in the first device based on the device change response,
• in case that the device change response includes an indication indicating support of a profile recovery, transmit, to the server via the transceiver, a recovery request for recovery of the deleted profile based on a selection of the deleted profile for the profile recovery,
• receive, from the server via the transceiver, a recovery response for the recovery request including information for the recovery of the deleted profile, and
• perform a profile download and installation procedure for the deleted profile, based on the information for the recovery of the deleted profile.

A server in a communication system, the server comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• a controller operably connected to the transceiver, the controller configured to:
• receive, from a first device via the transceiver, a device change request for installing a profile in the first device onto a second device,
• transmit, to the first device via the transceiver, a device change response corresponding to the device change request instructing to delete the profile from an embedded universal integrated circuit card (eUICC) in the first device,
• in case that the device change response includes an indication indicating support of a profile recovery, receive, from the first device via the transceiver, a recovery request for recovery of the deleted profile based on a selection of the deleted profile for the profile recovery, and
• transmit, to the first device, a recovery response for the recovery request including information for the recovery of the deleted profile,
• wherein a profile download and installation procedure is performed for the deleted profile, based on the information for the recovery of the deleted profile.
