Smart sensor with region of interest capabilities

A method comprising:

• selecting a particular region of interest (ROI) of a plurality of ROIs of an image sensor comprising a plurality of pixels that form the plurality of ROIs, wherein each respective multiplexer of a plurality of multiplexers is configured to electrically connect (i) a corresponding analog-to-digital converter (ADC) bank of a plurality of ADC banks to (ii) a selected ROI of the plurality of ROIs;
• electrically connecting, to the particular ROI, (i) a first ADC bank by way of a first multiplexer corresponding to the first ADC bank and (ii) a second ADC bank by way of a second multiplexer corresponding to the second ADC bank;
• and
• generating an ROI image by digitizing pixels of the particular ROI by way of parallel operation of the first ADC bank and the second ADC bank.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:

• selecting a particular region of interest (ROI) of a plurality of ROIs of an image sensor comprising a plurality of pixels that form the plurality of ROIs, wherein each respective multiplexer of a plurality of multiplexers is configured to electrically connect (i) a corresponding analog-to-digital converter (ADC) bank of a plurality of ADC banks to (ii) a selected ROI of the plurality of ROIs;
• electrically connecting, to the particular ROI, (i) a first ADC bank by way of a first multiplexer corresponding to the first ADC bank and (ii) a second ADC bank by way of a second multiplexer corresponding to the second ADC bank;
• and
• generating an ROI image by digitizing pixels of the particular ROI by way of parallel operation of the first ADC bank and the second ADC bank.
