Computing system with timing prediction and electronic program guide feature

An apparatus comprising:

• at least one memory;
• machine-readable instructions;
• and
• one or more processors to execute the machine-readable instructions that, upon execution of the machine-readable instructions, cause performance of a set of operations comprising:
• obtaining a first portion of a first media program distributed on a first channel, the first media program being scheduled to end at a scheduled end-time;
• determining a first state of the first media program;
• determining a predicted end-time of the first media program based on a similarity of the determined first state of the first media program compared to a second state of a past event, the predicted end-time being after the scheduled end-time;
• determining a predicted end-time for the first media program based on a comparison of the first state and the second state, the predicted end-time to identify that the first media program on the first channel is to end after the scheduled end-time;
• modifying electronic program guide (EPG) data associated with the first channel based on the predicted end-time;
• obtaining a second portion of media of a second media program distributed on a second channel by a second distributor, the second portion of media comprising at least a segment second media program scheduled to be broadcasted between the scheduled end-time and the predicted end-time of the first media program;
• transmitting the EPG and the second portion of the second media program to a media presentation device for presentation.

A method comprising:

• obtaining a first portion of a first media program distributed on a first channel, the first media program scheduled to end at a scheduled end-time;
• determining a first state of the first media program;
• determining a predicted end-time of the first media program based on a similarity of the determined first state of the first media program compared to a second state of a past event, the predicted end-time being after the scheduled end-time;
• after a determination that the predicted end-time is after at least one of the scheduled end-time of the first media program or a scheduled start-time of second media program, modifying electronic program guide (EPG) data associated with the first channel;
• obtaining a second portion of media of a second media program distributed on a channel by a second distributor, the second portion of media comprising at least a segment second media program scheduled to be broadcasted between the scheduled end-time and the predicted end-time of the first media program;
• and
• transmitting the EPG and the second portion of the second media program to a media presentation device for presentation.
