Abstract
A system includes a storage system and circuitry coupled to the storage system. The circuitry is configured to perform operations comprising determining a type of a received data packet, determining a destination of the received data packet, and determining whether the received data packet is of a particular type or has a particular destination. The operations further comprise, responsive to determining that the received data packet is of the particular type or has the particular destination, rerouting the received data packet from the particular destination to a register of the storage system.
Claims20
A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to:
- determine, via a controller of a storage system and in association with a reset of a port of the storage system, whether a data packet received by the storage system has a particular destination external to the storage system, wherein the data packet is generated from processing of a transaction of the storage system;
- and
- responsive to determining that the data packet has the particular destination external to the storage system:
- reroute the data packet, from being communicated from the storage system to the particular destination external to the storage system, to a first in, first out (FIFO) buffer of the storage system such that processing of the transaction is completed on the storage system without communicating the data packet to the particular destination external to the storage system;
- and
- store the data packet in the FIFO buffer;
- and
- wherein completion of the transaction on the storage system prevents the data packet from being sent to the particular destination subsequently to the reset of the port being complete.
A method, comprising:
- responsive to a reset of a port of a storage system, determining whether an outgoing data packet from the storage system is of a first type of data packet,
- wherein the storage system is a resource of a host coupled to the storage system via the port, and
- wherein the outgoing data packet is generated from processing, via a controller of the storage system, of a transaction of the storage system destined for the host prior to the reset of the port;
- and
- responsive to determining that the outgoing data packet is of the first type of data packet, preventing the outgoing data packet from being sent to the host by rerouting the outgoing data packet such that it is stored in a first in, first out (FIFO) buffer of the storage system wherein storing the outgoing data packet in the FIFO buffer results in consumption of the outgoing data packet and corresponds to completion of processing of the transaction;
- and
- wherein processing of the transaction begins prior to the reset of the port.
An apparatus, comprising:
- a controller of a multi-port storage system, wherein the controller is configured to, responsive to, and concurrent with, a reset of a particular port of the multi-port storage system:
- cease outgoing communications from the multi-port storage system via the particular port;
- process a first outstanding transaction received from a host associated with the particular port, wherein processing of the first outstanding transaction:
- begins prior to the reset of the particular port;
- completes subsequent to the reset of the particular port being completed;
- and
- generates a first data packet destined for the host associated with the particular port;
- and
- prevent the first data packet from being sent to the host associated with the particular port by rerouting the first data packet such that it is stored in a first in, first out (FIFO) buffer of the multi-port storage system rather than being sent to the host;
- and
- wherein rerouting the first data packet from being sent to the host results in the host considering the reset to be completed sooner than if the first data packet had been sent to the host during the reset of the particular port.
