Abstract
A technique for improving wireless communication characteristics involving matching transmitter antenna patterns to receiver antenna patterns. In a specific implementation, the transmitter antenna pattern adapts to changing parameters, such as when a smartphone is initially held in a first orientation and is later held in a second orientation. Because the transmitter antenna pattern matches receiver antenna patterns, signal quality between stations improves. In some implementations, antennas are organized and mounted to maximize spatial diversity to cause peak gains in different directions.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- generating a station profile for each of a plurality of stations based on a structure of each of the plurality of stations and an antenna pattern group of each of the plurality of stations;
- identifying a station profile of a first station from among the plurality of stations based on information received from the first station;
- and
- configuring a plurality of antennas of a dynamic antenna device based on the antenna pattern group for the first station.
A non-transitory computer readable storage medium having computer readable code thereon, the non-transitory computer readable medium including instructions for a computer system to perform operations comprising:
- categorizing a respective plurality of stations into a respective plurality of antenna pattern groups based on a structure of each of the respective plurality of stations;
- associating the structure of each of the respective plurality of stations with its respective antenna pattern group to generate a station profile for each of the respective plurality of stations;
- identifying a station profile of a first station from among the respective plurality of stations based on information received from the first station;
- determining an antenna pattern group from the plurality of antenna pattern groups for the first station based on the station profile of the first station;
- and
- configuring a plurality of antennas of a network device based on the antenna pattern group for the first station.
An apparatus, comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- at least one processor coupled to the memory and configured to:
- generate a station profile for each of a plurality of stations based on a structure of each of the plurality of stations and an antenna pattern group of each of the plurality of stations;
- identify a station profile of a first station from among the plurality of stations based on information received from the first station;
- and
- modify a configuration of a plurality of antennas of a network device based on the antenna pattern group for the first station.
