Abstract
An electric motor suitable for use in a laundry machine comprises an improved stator and/or rotor design.
Claims9
A stator for an electric motor for a washing machine or dryer or washer-dryer, comprising:
- a core of magnetically permeable material including an annular core ring and stator poles spaced around and extending radially outward from the core ring;
- and
- a polymeric insulating structure surrounding the stator poles and comprising a region that at least partially encapsulates the core ring,
- wherein the polymeric insulating structure further comprises a plurality of integrally formed fastener supports for receiving fasteners to fix the stator;
- and
- wherein the polymeric insulating structure further comprises a series of radially extending walls connecting the fastener supports to the region of the insulating structure which at least partially encapsulates the core ring, and wherein each wall is configured with a radial length, axial height, and tangential thickness, such that the stiffness of the insulating structure in the torsional direction is lower than that of its stiffness in either of the lateral and axial directions.
