Abstract
Disclosed herein are systems and methods for providing feeding reinforcement in real-time or near real-time based on physiological sensor data acquired during feeding. In some examples, music reinforcement is rendered when one or more feeding features indicative of one or more feeding behaviors are detected using the physiological sensor data. When at least one feature is not detected, the music reinforcement is stopped. In this way, contingent reinforcement is provided in real-time or near real-time based on detection of the one or more feeding behaviors to encourage and improve independent feeding behavior.
Claims22
A system for feeding reinforcement, the system comprising:
- at least one audio sensor configured to output audio data;
- a sound rendering device;
- a housing unit configured to be attached to an exterior of a feeding bottle and having the at least one audio sensor and the sound rendering device disposed therein, the housing unit being a band unit that is configured to extend around the feeding bottle or a cap unit that is configured to receive a bottom of the feeding bottle therein;
- a memory;
- a control system coupled to the memory, and comprising one or more processors, the control system configured to execute a machine executable code to cause the control system to:
- receive the audio data output from the at least one audio sensor;
- process, in real-time or near real-time, the audio data to detect one or more feeding features in the audio data;
- and
- render, in real-time or near real-time, an audio content via the sound rendering device responsive to detecting the one or more feeding features in the audio data;
- wherein the one or more feeding features are associated with one or more feeding events occurring during a feeding session by an infant, and include a nutritive suck event, a swallow event, and a nipple compression event, or any combination thereof.
A system for feeding reinforcement, the system comprising:
- at least one audio sensor configured to output audio data;
- a sound rendering device;
- a housing unit configured to be attached to an exterior of a feeding bottle and having the at least one audio sensor and the sound rendering device disposed therein, the housing unit being a band unit that is configured to extend around the feeding bottle or a cap unit that is configured to receive a bottom of the feeding bottle therein;
- a memory;
- a control system coupled to the memory and comprising one or more processors, the control system configured to execute the machine executable code to cause the control system to:
- receive the audio data output from the at least one audio sensor;
- process, in real-time or near real-time, the audio data to detect one or more feeding features in the audio data, each feeding feature being associated with a respective feeding event;
- identifying a feeding pattern based on the one or more feeding features, the feeding pattern including at least two different feeding events;
- and
- render, in real-time or near real-time, audio content via the sound rendering device responsive to identifying the feeding pattern.
A method for feeding reinforcement, comprising:
- during feeding,
- receiving, in real-time or near real-time, audio data from at least one audio sensor;
- detecting, in real-time or near real-time, one or more feeding features according to the physiological sensor data, the one or more feeding features associated with one or more feeding events that include a nutritive suck event, a swallow event, a nipple compression event, or any combination thereof;
- and
- rendering, in real-time or near real-time, an audio content responsive to detecting the one or more feeding features,
- wherein the at least one audio sensor and the sound rendering device are disposed within a housing unit that is configured to be attached to an exterior of a feeding bottle, the housing unit being a band unit configured to extend around the feeding bottle or a cap unit that is configured to receive a bottom of the feeding bottle therein.
