Abstract
An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) air traffic control method utilizing wireless networks and concurrently supporting delivery application authorization and management communicating with a plurality of UAVs via a plurality of cell towers associated with the wireless networks, wherein the plurality of UAVs each include hardware and antennas adapted to communicate to the plurality of cell towers; maintaining data associated with flight of each of the plurality of UAVs based on the communicating; processing the maintained data to perform a plurality of functions associated with air traffic control of the plurality of UAVs; and processing the maintained data to perform a plurality of functions for the delivery application authorization and management for each of the plurality of UAVs.
Claims16
A method for delivering a package using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) comprising:
- communicating with the UAV via one or more wireless networks;
- maintaining data in association with a flight of the UAV during delivery of the package;
- controlling the UAV based on the maintained data, air traffic, and a signal strength between the UAV and the one or more networks, and adjusting a flight path of the UAV in response to at least one of signal degradation and signal loss between the UAV and the one or more wireless networks;
- obtaining at least one image chosen from a photograph and a video of a delivery location;
- selecting a delivery technique based on the at least one image obtained, wherein the delivery technique causes the UAV to deliver the package via a tether;
- p1 determining a delivery zone within the delivery location to deliver the package based on the at lesat one image obtained;
- and
- delivering the package to the delivery zone using the delivery technique selected.
A control system for delivering a package via an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the control system comprising:
- a processor and a network interface communicatively coupled to one another;
- and
- memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to:
- communicate with the UAV via one or more wireless networks;
- maintain data received from the UAV in association with a flight of the UAV during delivery of the package;
- control the UAV based on the maintained data, air traffic, and a signal strength between the UAV and the one or more networks, and adjust a flight path of the UAV in response to at least one of signal degradation and signal loss between the UAV and the one or more wireless networks;
- obtain at least one image chosen from a photograph and a video of a delivery location;
- select a delivery technique based on the at least one image obtained, wherein the delivery technique causes the UAV to deliver the package via a tether;
- determine a delivery zone within the delivery location to deliver the package based on the at least one image obtained;
- and instruct the UAV to deliver the package to the delivery zone using the delivery technique selected.
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for delivering a package, the UAV comprising:
- hardware and antennas adapted to communicate with one or more wireless networks;
- a processor communicatively coupled to the hardware and antennas;
- and
- memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to:
- communicate with a control system via one or more wireless networks;
- obtain and send data to the control system in association with a flight of the UAV during delivery of the package, the data including at least one image chosen from a photograph and a video of a delivery location;
- control the UAV in conjunction with control instructions received from the control system based on the sent data and air traffic, and a signal strength between the UAV and the one or more networks, the control including causing the UAV to operate only where wireless communication coverage by the one or more wireless networks exists by adjusting a flight path of the UAV in response to at least one of signal degradation and signal loss between the UAV and the one or more wireless networks;
- receive confirmation that the delivery location is clear for package delivery from the control system;
- receive a delivery zone within the delivery location and a delivery technique, selected from a plurality of delivery techniques based on the at least one image, from the control system, wherein the delivery technique causes the UAV to deliver the package via a tether and p2 deliver the package to the delivery zone using the delivery technique.
