Systems and methods for dynamically rendering data lineage

A system comprising:

• a processor;
• and machine readable instructions, stored on a tangible machine readable medium, when executed by the processor, configure the system to:
• process data associated with lineage of a selected data asset, the data being maintained in a data asset catalog including linear representations associated with a collection of data assets including the selected data asset, the processed data indicating relationship information between data assets referenced within the data asset catalog, the relationship information indicating a relationship of the selected data asset with upstream data assets and downstream data assets, wherein the upstream data assets have contributed to the selected data asset, and wherein the selected data asset has contributed to the downstream data assets;
• analyzing the relationship of the selected data asset from the data asset catalog to select a subset of the upstream data assets and the downstream data assets based at least in part on usage in the data asset catalog;
• cause a summary of the selected data asset to be displayed in a user interface, wherein the summary of the selected data asset includes an identifier of the selected data asset, a first indicator that indicates a number of relationships of the selected data asset with data assets that are one level upstream from the selected data asset, and a second indicator that indicates a number of relationships of the selected data asset with data assets that are one level downstream from the selected data asset;
• cause first summary information corresponding to at least some of the data assets that are one level upstream from the selected data asset to be displayed in the user interface;
• and
• cause second summary information corresponding to at least some of the data assets that are one level downstream from the selected data asset to be displayed in the user interface.
