Abstract
One or more embodiments of a regulator circuit for providing power to a load device having a first power demand profile over time. The regulator circuit comprises a regulator and an energy storage device coupled to the regulator and the load device. The regulator circuit is configured to scavenge provided energy that is available beyond the first power demand profile. Further, the regulator circuit is configured to store that energy in the energy storage device, and the energy storage device is configured to augment deliverable peak power to the load device when the load device requires more power than is provided by the regulator circuit.
Claims15
A regulator circuit for providing power to a load device having a first deterministic power demand over time, comprising:
- a power supply;
- a regulator configured to receive power on a first power rail from the power supply;
- and
- a deterministic energy provisioning device coupled to the regulator and the load device on a second power rail, wherein the regulator circuit is configured to:
- store energy provided by the power supply for a defined period of time based on a power demand schedule to the deterministic energy provisioning device, wherein the deterministic energy provisioning device is configured to augment deliverable peak power to the load device when the power demand schedule indicates more power is to be required by the load device than is provisioned by the power supply.
A regulator circuit for providing power to a load device having a power demand profile over time, comprising:
- a power source having a first power rail for providing power;
- a regulator coupled to the first power rail;
- and
- a deterministic energy provisioning (DEP) device coupled to the regulator and the load device by a second power rail, wherein the regulator circuit is configured to:
- manage an input power to the load device whereby an input current on the first power rail is maintained at or below a selected power rail current level, and wherein current on the second power rail is provided to the load device by the power source and the DEP device for a first period of time,
- wherein the DEP device further comprises a storage device to store excess energy during a second period of time when excess power is provisioned by the power source, the excess energy subsequently supplied to the load device during the first period of time, and
- wherein the DEP device further comprises provisioning extra energy based on the power demand profile that provides information about successive demand loads.
A system having a regulator circuit for providing power to a deterministic load, comprising:
- a first power source having a power rail;
- a regulator for managing delivery of power from the power rail to a load device in accordance with a power demand schedule;
- and
- a deterministic energy provisioning device coupled to the regulator and the load device, wherein the regulator circuit is configured to:
- manage an input power to the load device over a first period of time, and
- schedule an execution of a series of operating states of the load device using an energy requirement based on the power demand schedule, the energy requirement to be provided by the first power source and the deterministic energy provisioning device during a second period of time.
A deterministic energy provisioning (DEP) device comprising a storage device to store excess energy during periods when excess power is provisioned by a power supply, and subsequently provide the stored energy from the storage device to a load to satisfy a demand in excess of provisioned energy using information available in advance of the excess demand load;
- a simulation component, responsive to a power schedule and an initial state of the storage device, to simulate operation of a series of operating states described by the power schedule.
