Abstract
A rotary device having a housing, a rotating machine component, a rotating member associated with the rotating machine component, a nonrotating member disposed within the housing adjacent the rotating member, and a sensor array disposed in the housing. The sensor array includes a plurality of sensing elements that are integrated with a control device and a wireless communication device. The wireless communication device is configured to communicate with a central control that is remotely located relative to the housing using electromagnetic waves.
Claims6
A method for operating a rotary device, the method comprising:
- providing a housing made from a non-metallic material and including a pocket;
- rotatable supporting a rotatable machine component in the housing, the rotatable machine component having a rotatable member associated therewith;
- mounting a non-rotating member within the housing adjacent the rotating member;
- providing a sensor array in the pocket, the sensor array including a plurality of sensing elements that are integrated with a control device and a wireless communication device;
- fluidly isolating the sensor array within the pocket;
- monitoring a plurality of operating parameters with the sensor array;
- and
- wirelessly communicating the operating parameters to a central control that is remotely located relative to the housing using electromagnetic waves;
- wherein the wireless communication is independent of an orientation of the housing relative to the sensor array and the central control.
