Abstract
Methods are disclosed for the reduction or elimination of bacterial biofilms on biological and non-biological surfaces, as well as methods for the treatment of wounds, skin lesions, mucous membrane lesions, and other biological surfaces infected or contaminated with bacterial biofilms using compositions comprising a synergistic combination of thermolysin and at least one aminoglycoside antibacterial agent.
Claims14
A composition comprising a combination of 0.1 to 1% (w/w) thermolysin and 0.1 to 1% (w/w) gentamicin or a salt form thereof based on the total weight of the composition, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier suitable for application to a biological surface, wherein the composition is capable of reducing or eliminating a bacterial biofilm on a biological surface when the composition is in direct contact with the biological surface.
