Abstract
Architectures or techniques are presented that can prioritize operating a consumption device in a manner that is efficient in terms of consumption of a resource over satisfying a specified demand assigned to the consumption device. This re-prioritizing can be performed in response to a price of the resource exceeding a threshold.
Claims17
A control device for controlling consumption of a resource, the control device comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the control device to at least:
- receive real time information that indicates a price of the resource;
- determine from the real time information that the price of the resource has exceeded a defined price threshold;
- in response to determining the price has exceeded the defined price threshold:
- determine a difference in the price and the defined price threshold;
- provide the difference in the price and the defined price threshold as input to a function to determine an amount to reduce a first output capacity of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) device, wherein the first output capacity reduced by the amount is a reduced non-zero output capacity;
- and
- instruct the HVAC device to continue to consume the resource but operate at the reduced non-zero output capacity, without adjustment of an HVAC set point, and without implementation of a setback in which the HVAC device is shut off for a time in order to satisfy the setback.
A method comprising:
- operating a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) device at a first output capacity in order to satisfy a set point, wherein the HVAC device consumes a resource while operating;
- receiving real time information that indicates a price of the resource;
- determining from the real time information that the price of the resource has exceeded a defined price threshold;
- in response to determining the price has exceeded the defined price threshold:
- determining a difference in the price and the defined price threshold;
- providing the difference in the price and the defined price threshold as input to a function to determine an amount to reduce the first output capacity of the HVAC device, wherein the first output capacity reduced by the amount is a reduced non-zero output capacity;
- and
- operating the HVAC device to continue to consume the resource but at the reduced non-zero output capacity that is less than the first output capacity, without adjustment of the set point, and without implementation of a setback in which the HVAC device is shut off for a time in order to satisfy the setback.
A non-transitory storage medium comprising instructions executable by a processor, wherein the processor implements a method in response to executing the instructions, the method comprising:
- operating a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) device to consume a resource, and at a first output capacity in order to satisfy a set point;
- receiving real time information that indicates a price of the resource;
- determining from the real time information that the price of the resource has exceeded a defined price threshold;
- in response to determining the price has exceeded the defined price threshold:
- determining a difference in the price and the defined price threshold;
- providing the difference in the price and the defined price threshold as input to a function to determine an amount to reduce the first output capacity of the HVAC device, wherein the first output capacity reduced by the amount is a reduced non-zero output capacity;
- and
- operating the HVAC device to continue to consume the resource but at the reduced non-zero output capacity that is less than the first output capacity, without adjustment of the set point, and without implementation of a setback in which the HVAC device is shut off for a time in order to satisfy the setback.
