Abstract
A catheter includes a shaft for insertion into an organ of a patient, and an expandable distal-end assembly, which is coupled to the shaft and to an apex of the catheter, and includes multiple splines. In at least a given spline among the multiple splines, at least sixty percent of a length of the given spline is non-insulated and is configured to make contact with tissue of the organ and to apply radiofrequency (RF) pulses to the tissue.
Claims18
A catheter configured to be used in a medical procedure, the catheter comprising:
- a shaft for insertion into an anatomical structure of a patient, the shaft extending along a longitudinal axis, the shaft comprising a distal tip;
- an expandable distal-end assembly, coupled to the shaft and to an apex of the catheter, and comprises multiple splines, each spline of the multiple splines being formed from an electrically conductive material, at least 60 percent of a length of at least one spline being non-insulated and being configured to make contact with tissue of the anatomical structure and to apply electrical pulses to the tissue;
- and
- a bump stop coupled to the apex of the catheter and configured to contact the distal tip of the shaft to maintain a minimal distance between the apex of the catheter and the distal tip of the shaft when a force is applied to the expandable distal-end assembly.
A method for producing a catheter for use in a medical procedure, the method comprising:
- A receiving multiple splines, the multiple splines being formed from an electrically conductive material, at least 60 percent of a length of at least one spline of the multiple splines being non-insulated and being configured to make contact with a tissue of an anatomical structure of a patient and to apply electrical pulses to the tissue;
- assembling the multiple spline between an apex of the catheter and a shaft of the catheter to produce an expandable distal-end assembly;
- and
- coupling to the apex of the catheter a bump stop disposed between the shaft and the apex of the catheter to ensure a gap therebetween, the bump stop being configured to directly contact a distal tip of the shaft to maintain a minimal distance between the apex of the catheter and the distal tip of the shaft when a force is applied to the expandable distal-end assembly.
A catheter configured to be used in a medical procedure, the catheter comprising:
- a shaft for insertion into an anatomical structure of a patient, the shaft extending along a longitudinal axis, the shaft comprising a distal tip;
- an apex of the catheter positioned distal to the distal tip of the shaft;
- an expandable distal-end assembly longitudinally interposed between the distal tip of the shaft and the apex of the catheter, the expandable distal-end assembly comprising multiple splines, each spline of the multiple splines being formed from an electrically conductive material and configured to contact tissue of the anatomical structure and to apply electrical energy to the tissue;
- a coupling element, the expandable distal-end assembly being coupled to the shaft via the coupling element;
- and
- a bump stop extending proximally from the apex of the catheter, the bump stop being configured to limit a minimal distance along the longitudinal axis between the shaft and the apex of the catheter by contacting the distal tip of the shaft when a force is applied to the expandable distal-end assembly.
