Abstract
Systems and methods for producing water from process gas are provided herein. The systems include a water generating system that adjusts the pressure and temperature conditions surrounding a hygroscopic material in order to release water vapor generated by exposure of the hygroscopic material to the process gas.
Claims29
A system for generating water from air comprising:
- a sealable housing defining an interior volume and comprising at least one inlet configured to input a process gas comprising ambient air into the interior volume during a load time, wherein the at least one inlet is configured to input a carrier gas into the interior volume during a release time;
- a hygroscopic material retained within the interior volume, the hygroscopic material being configured to capture water vapor from ambient air during the load time;
- wherein the hygroscopic material is configured to absorb thermal energy during the release time;
- a pumping device configured to form a reduced pressure condition within the interior volume during the release time;
- at least one valve configured to allow the process gas into the sealable housing during the load time, and allow the carrier gas into the sealable housing while the interior volume is under the reduced pressure condition during the release time;
- a condenser configured to condense water vapor from the carrier gas to produce liquid water during the release time;
- and,
- a controller configured to control the production of liquid water from the condenser by actuating the at least one valve between the load time and the release time in an alternating manner.

- a thermal energy source configured to heat the carrier gas before or during input to interior volume of the sealable housing during the release time;
- a pumping device configured to form a reduced pressure condition within the interior volume during the release time;
- a condenser configured to condense water vapor from the carrier gas to produce liquid water during the release time;
- at least one valve configured to allow the process gas into the sealable housing during the load time, and allow the carrier gas into the sealable housing while the interior volume is under the reduced pressure condition during the release time;
- and,
- a controller configured to actuate the at least one valve between the load time and the release time in an alternating manner.

A method for generating water from air comprising:
- inputting, via at least one inlet, a process gas comprising ambient air into an interior volume of a sealable housing during a load time, wherein the interior volume comprises a hygroscopic material configured to capture water vapor from the process gas comprising ambient air during the load time;
- forming, by a pumping device, a reduced pressure condition within the interior volume during a release time;
- inputting, via the at least one inlet, a carrier gas into the interior volume during the release time;
- heating the hygroscopic material during the release time;
- condensing, by a condenser, water vapor from the carrier gas to produce liquid water during the release time;
- and,
- actuating, by a controller, at least one valve between the load time and the release time in an alternating manner to control the production of liquid water from the condenser during the release time,
- wherein the at least one valve allows the process gas into the sealable housing during the load time, and allows the carrier gas into the sealable housing while the interior volume is under the reduced pressure condition during the release time.
