Solid lubricant and method of making the same

A method of making a solid-state lubricant coating on a substrate, the method comprising:

• making a homogeneous slurry comprising powder of an oxide of a metal, graphene, and a polymeric binder;
• coating a substrate with the homogeneous slurry;
• and
• drying the slurry on the substrate, resulting in a solid lubricant coating on the substrate,
• wherein the weight percent of graphene is in the range of 80 to 85 in the resulting solid lubricant coating.

A method of making a solid-state lubricant coating on a substrate, the method comprising:

• making a homogeneous slurry comprising powder of an oxide of a metal, graphene, and a polymeric binder;
• coating a substrate with the homogeneous slurry;
• and
• drying the slurry on the substrate, resulting in a solid lubricant coating on the substrate,
• wherein the weight percent of graphene is in the range of 70 to 90 in the resulting solid lubricant coating and wherein the zinc oxide is in the form of nano-scale particles and graphene is in the form of microscale particles.
