Abstract
Improving the balance of beneficial gut microbiota of an animal by providing a composition containing beta-casein, wherein at least 75% by weight of the beta-casein is a beta-casein variant that has a proline at position 67 of the beta-casein amino acid sequence.
Claims7
A method of increasing levels of short chain fatty acids produced by microbiota in the gut of a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering to the subject a composition containing beta-casein, wherein at least 95% by weight of the beta-casein is beta-casein A2, and wherein the short chain fatty acid is selected from the group consisting of acetic acid and butanoic acid.
