Abstract
A shock absorber is provided having a cylinder, a piston rod, a piston body, and a valve. The cylinder is configured to receive fluid. The piston body is connected to the piston rod and is configured to reciprocate within the cylinder between a compression chamber and a rebound chamber. The valve is provided by the piston body having a fluid flow port, a valve seat, a circumferential valving element, and a spring configured to urge the valve body into the valve seat. A primary damping valve and an auxiliary damping valve are also provided.
Claims21
A hydraulic fluid control valve for a shock absorber, comprising:
- a valve body;
- a first valve having an orifice, a plug and a spring configured to urge the plug against the orifice, the orifice provided on the valve body and the valve body interposed between a shock absorber fluid internal chamber and a differential overflow source of shock absorber fluid;
- a hydraulic pump configured to urge the plug against the orifice having a piston, a piston bore defining an expansible piston chamber, a piston biasing spring configured to urge the piston into the piston chamber, and a fluid bypass port configured to move fluid from outside the valve body into the hydraulic pump between the piston and the piston chamber to apply differential force on the plug by pumping the piston against the spring within the piston bore to urge the plug against the orifice to further seat the plug against the orifice;
- and
- a second valve placed parallel to the first valve and the fluid bypass port of the hydraulic pump in fluid communication with the shock absorber fluid reservoir and adjustable in flow rate to vary the differential force on the plug against the orifice.
A hydraulic fluid control valve for a shock absorber, comprising:
- a valve body;
- a cone valve having a cone valve seat, a cone valve body and a spring configured to urge the cone valve body against the cone valve seat, the cone valve seat provided on the valve body and the valve body interposed between a shock absorber fluid internal chamber and a differential overflow source of shock absorber fluid;
- a piston pump configured to urge the cone valve body against the cone valve seal having a piston and a piston bore defining an expansible piston chamber, the piston biased into the piston chamber, and a fluid bypass port configured to move fluid from outside the valve body into the hydraulic pump between the piston and the piston chamber to apply differential force on the plug by pumping against the biased piston within the piston bore to urge the cone valve body against the cone valve seat to further seat the cone valve body against the cone valve seat;
- and
- a bypass valve placed parallel to the cone valve and the fluid bypass port of the piston pump in fluid communication with the shock absorber fluid reservoir and adjustable in flow rate to vary the differential force on the cone valve body against the cone valve seat.
