## Abstract

A motor for a laundry appliance includes a drive shaft coupled to a drum at a first end. The rotor frame is coupled proximate the second end of the drive shaft, where the rotor frame includes at least one polymeric material. A central hub includes a core and a perimetrical ring that extends circumferentially around the core. A plurality of recesses are defined within a planar surface of the perimetrical ring, wherein a portion of the polymeric material is received within the plurality of recesses to secure the rotor frame to the central hub.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A metallic coupler for a polymeric rotor, the metallic coupler comprising:
a cylindrical core that is configured to receive a drive shaft; and
an outer ring that extends around the cylindrical core and defines an upper planar surface and a lower planar surface that extend outward from an outer surface of the cylindrical core, the outer ring including an outward-facing cylindrical surface that extends between the upper planar surface and the lower planar surface, wherein
a plurality of recesses are defined within the outer ring and extend into the outer ring through at least one of the upper planar surface and the lower planar surface;
the plurality of recesses are configured to receive at least one polymeric material;
the plurality of recesses are defined between the outer surface of the cylindrical core and the outward-facing cylindrical surface of the outer ring; and
the plurality of recesses are further configured to rotationally and axially secure a rotor frame that is formed of the at least one polymeric material.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The metallic coupler of claim 1, wherein the plurality of recesses include a plurality of first recesses that extends through the upper planar surface and a plurality of second recesses that extend through the lower planar surface.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The metallic coupler of claim 2, wherein the plurality of first recesses are aligned with the plurality of second recesses, respectively.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The metallic coupler of claim 1, wherein the upper planar surface is parallel with the lower planar surface.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The metallic coupler of claim 1, wherein the outward-facing cylindrical surface of the outer ring is concentric with the outer surface of the cylindrical core relative to a rotational axis of the cylindrical core.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The metallic coupler of claim 1, wherein the cylindrical core and the outer ring are formed of aluminum.

### Claim 7 (depends on 3)

The metallic coupler of claim 3, wherein the plurality of first recesses and the plurality of second recesses form continuous cavities that extend between the upper planar surface and the lower planar surface.

### Claim 8 (depends on 3)

The metallic coupler of claim 3, wherein the plurality of first recesses and the plurality of second recesses are separated from one another.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The metallic coupler of claim 1, wherein the upper planar surface and the lower planar surface are oriented perpendicular to the outer surface of the cylindrical core.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The metallic coupler of claim 1, wherein the upper planar surface is a continuous planar surface that circumscribes the outer surface of the cylindrical core.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The metallic coupler of claim 1, wherein the lower planar surface is a continuous planar surface that circumscribes the outer surface of the cylindrical core.

### Claim 12

A metallic coupler for a polymeric rotor, the metallic coupler comprising:
a core defining a core outer surface;
an outer perimetrical ring that extends outward from the core outer surface to an outward-facing cylindrical surface, wherein
the outer perimetrical ring includes a plurality of recesses that extend into the outer perimetrical ring through at least one of an upper planar surface and a lower planar surface of the outer perimetrical ring, and wherein the plurality of recesses are configured to receive a polymeric material to secure a rotor frame that is made from the polymeric material.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The metallic coupler of claim 12, wherein the plurality of recesses include a plurality of first recesses that extends through the upper planar surface and a plurality of second recesses that extend through the lower planar surface.

### Claim 14 (depends on 12)

The metallic coupler of claim 12, wherein the upper planar surface is parallel with the lower planar surface.

### Claim 15 (depends on 12)

The metallic coupler of claim 12, wherein the outward-facing cylindrical surface of the outer perimetrical ring and the core outer surface are both concentric to a rotational axis of the core.

### Claim 16 (depends on 12)

The metallic coupler of claim 12, wherein the core and the outer perimetrical ring are formed of aluminum.

### Claim 17 (depends on 12)

The metallic coupler of claim 12, wherein the upper planar surface and the lower planar surface are oriented perpendicular to the core outer surface of the core.

### Claim 18 (depends on 12)

The metallic coupler of claim 12, wherein the upper planar surface is a continuous planar surface that circumscribes the core outer surface of the core.

### Claim 19 (depends on 12)
