Abstract
Methods and systems are provided for a lubricant catching device. In one example, a system may include a device for capturing lubricant flowing in a clockwise direction and a counterclockwise direction. The device receives lubricant from a lubricated, rotating component.
Claims20
A system, comprising:
- a device configured to capture lubricant directed in a clockwise direction and a counterclockwise direction via a first passage and a second passage, wherein the device is a single, continuous piece and comprises a first collecting region, a second collecting region, and a third collecting region, wherein the third collecting region extends vertically lower than the first and second collecting regions and a rotating device, and wherein:
- the rotating device rotates about an axis of rotation;
- the first collecting region is positioned on a first side of the rotating device and the axis of rotation;
- the second collecting region is positioned vertically above the rotating device and vertically above the axis of rotation;
- the third collecting region is positioned on a second side of the rotating device and the axis of rotation, the second side being opposite the first side with the rotating device and the axis of rotation therebetween;
- the third collecting region extends vertically on the second side from vertically above the axis of rotation to vertically lower than the rotating device;
- and
- no part of the first collecting region, the second collecting region, or the third collecting region extends to a region vertically under the rotating device and the axis of rotation.
5 more elements
A device for capturing lubricant flowing in a clockwise direction or a counterclockwise direction based on a rotation of a rotating component, the device comprising:
- a first collecting region arranged at a first portion of the device, the first collecting region fluidly coupled to a first outlet of a housing of the rotating component;
- a second collecting region arranged at a second portion of the device, the second collecting region fluidly coupled to a second outlet of the housing of the rotating component;
- a third collecting region arranged at a third portion of the device, the third collecting region fluidly coupled to a third outlet of the housing of the rotating component, wherein the device comprising the first collecting region, the second collecting region, and the third collecting region is a single, continuous piece;
- a first passage fluidly coupled to the first collecting region and the second collecting region, the first passage configured to receive lubricant flowing in the clockwise direction;
- and
- a second passage fluidly coupled to the second collecting region and the third collecting region, the second passage configured to receive lubricant flowing the counterclockwise direction, wherein:
- the first passage, the second passage, and the second portion comprise reflection symmetric about an axis of symmetry;
- the rotating component rotates about an axis of rotation;
- the first collecting region is positioned on a first side of the rotating component and the axis of rotation;
- the second collecting region is positioned vertically above the rotating component and vertically above the axis of rotation;
- the third collecting region is positioned on a second side of the rotating component and the axis of rotation, the second side being opposite the first side with the rotating component and the axis of rotation therebetween;
- the third collecting region extends vertically on the second side from vertically above the axis of rotation to vertically lower than the rotating component;
- and
- no part of the first collecting region, the second collecting region, or the third collecting region extends to a region vertically under the rotating component and the axis of rotation.

A system, comprising:
- a rotating component configured to receive lubricant;
- a device spaced away from the rotating component and configured to receive lubricant from only the rotating component flowing in a clockwise direction and a counterclockwise direction;
- the device comprising a first collecting region arranged at a first portion of the device, the first collecting region fluidly coupled to a first outlet of a housing of the rotating component;
- a second collecting region arranged at a second portion of the device, the second collecting region fluidly coupled to a second outlet of the housing of the rotating component;
- a third collecting region arranged at a third portion of the device and vertically extending lower than the rotating component, the third collecting region fluidly coupled to a third outlet of the housing of the rotating component, wherein the device is a single, continuous piece;
- a first passage fluidly coupled to the first collecting region and the second collecting region, the first passage configured to receive lubricant flowing in the clockwise direction;
- and
- a second passage fluidly coupled to the second collecting region and the third collecting region, the second passage configured to receive lubricant flowing the counterclockwise direction, wherein:
- the first passage, the second passage, and the second portion comprise reflection symmetric about an axis of symmetry;
- the rotating component rotates about an axis of rotation;
- the first collecting region is positioned on a first side of the rotating component and the axis of rotation;
- the second collecting region is positioned vertically above the rotating component and vertically above the axis of rotation;
- the third collecting region is positioned on a second side of the rotating component and the axis of rotation, the second side being opposite the first side with the rotating component and the axis of rotation therebetween;
- the third collecting region extends vertically on the second side from vertically above the axis of rotation to vertically lower than the rotating component;
- and
- no part of the first collecting region, the second collecting region, or the third collecting region extends to a region vertically under the rotating component and the axis of rotation.
