High-availability switchover based on traffic metrics

A method comprising:

• communicating, by a second node, with a first node that routes traffic via a first route path between a first endpoint and a second endpoint,
• the first node being an active node associated with a high-availability service established for a communication session;
• measuring, by the second node, a traffic metric of a second route path via probing between the first endpoint and the second endpoint;
• receiving, by the second node and from the first node, a switchover notification that a traffic metric of the first node fails to satisfy a metric threshold and a traffic metric of the second node satisfies the metric threshold;
• updating, by the second node, one or more parameters of the second node to cause the second node or a member node of a second high-availability cluster to be the active node for routing the traffic to the second endpoint based on receiving the switchover notification;
• and
• sending, by the second node, routing messages between the first endpoint and the second endpoint via the second route path.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing a set of instructions, the set of instructions comprising:

• one or more instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a second node, cause the second node to:
• communicate with a first node that routes traffic via a first route path between a first endpoint and a second endpoint,
• the first node being an active node associated with a high-availability service established for a communication session;
• measure a traffic metric of a second route path between the first endpoint and the second endpoint;
• receive, from the first node, a switchover notification based on a traffic metric of the first node fails to satisfy a metric threshold and a traffic metric of the second node satisfies the metric threshold;
• update one or more parameters of the second node to cause the second node or a member node of a second high-availability cluster to be the active node for routing the traffic to the second endpoint based on receiving the switchover notification;
• and
• route traffic between the first endpoint and the second endpoint via the second route path.
