Defect detection and image comparison of components in an assembly

A system comprising:

• at least one camera;
• a proximity sensor configured to:
• detect the test assembly as being in proximity to the proximity sensor;
• and
• cause the at least one camera to capture at least one image of the test assembly upon detection of the test assembly in proximity to the proximity sensor;
• and
• a processing device configured to:
• compare, for a component of a test assembly, a plurality of portions of an image taken of the test assembly to a corresponding plurality of portions of a corresponding profile image;
• compute, based on the comparing, a set of matching scores for the plurality of portions of the image and the corresponding plurality of portions of the corresponding profile image;
• select a largest matching score from the set of matching scores to be a component matching score for the component.

A method, comprising:

• comparing, for a component of a test assembly and by utilizing a processing device, a plurality of portions of an image taken of the test assembly to a corresponding plurality of portions of a corresponding profile image;
• computing, based on the comparing and by utilizing the processing device, a set of matching scores for the plurality of portions of the image and the corresponding plurality of portions of the corresponding profile image;
• and
• selecting, by utilizing the processing device, a largest matching score from the set of matching scores to be a component matching score for the component.
