Abstract
A multi-layer low-pass filter is used to filter a first frame of video data representing at least a portion of an environment of an individual. A first layer of the filter has a first filtering resolution setting for a first subset of the first frame, while a second layer of the filter has a second filtering resolution setting for a second subset. The first subset includes a data element positioned along a direction of a gaze of the individual, and the second subset of the frame surrounds the first subset. A result of the filtering is compressed and transmitted via a network to a video processing engine configured to generate a modified visual representation of the environment.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- setting respective values of one or more parameters of a multi-layer filter based at least in part on a bandwidth available for communication between a wearable device and a processing engine, wherein the multi-layer filter is to be applied to a visual representation of an environment of an individual wearing the wearable device, wherein a result of applying the multi-layer filter is to be transmitted to the processing engine from the wearable device, and wherein a particular parameter of the one or more parameters comprises a first filtering resolution of a particular layer of a plurality of layers of the multi-layer filter;
- generating, at the processing engine, a modified visual representation of an environment of a particular individual after receiving a result of applying the multi-layer filter, using the respective values of the one or more parameters, to a particular visual representation of the environment of the particular individual;
- and
- displaying, at the wearable device, the modified visual representation.
A system, comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- one or more memories;
- wherein the one or more memories store program instructions that when executed on or across the one or more processors perform a method comprising:
- setting respective values of one or more parameters of a multi-layer filter based at least in part on a bandwidth available for communication between a wearable device and a processing engine, wherein the multi-layer filter is to be applied to a visual representation of an environment of an individual wearing the wearable device, wherein a result of applying the multi-layer filter is to be transmitted to the processing engine from the wearable device, and wherein a particular parameter of the one or more parameters comprises a first filtering resolution of a particular layer of a plurality of layers of the multi-layer filter;
- generating, at the processing engine, a modified visual representation of an environment of a particular individual after receiving a result of applying the multi-layer filter, using the respective values of the one or more parameters, to a particular visual representation of the environment of the particular individual;
- and
- displaying, at the wearable device, the modified visual representation.
One or more non-transitory computer-accessible storage media storing program instructions that when executed on or across one or more processors cause the one or more processors to perform a method comprising:
- setting respective values of one or more parameters of a multi-layer filter based at least in part on a bandwidth available for communication between a wearable device and a processing engine, wherein the multi-layer filter is to be applied to a visual representation of an environment of an individual wearing the wearable device, wherein a result of applying the multi-layer filter is to be transmitted to the processing engine from the wearable device, and wherein a particular parameter of the one or more parameters comprises a first filtering resolution of a particular layer of a plurality of layers of the multi-layer filter;
- generating, at the processing engine, a modified visual representation of an environment of a particular individual after receiving a result of applying the multi-layer filter, using the respective values of the one or more parameters, to a particular visual representation of the environment of the particular individual;
- and
- displaying, at the wearable device, the modified visual representation.
