## Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of plant extracts from the genus Daphne for the cosmetic treatment of the skin and to cosmetic preparations which comprise extracts of Daphne giraldii and/or Daphne gnidium or other members of the genus Daphne containing daphnetoxin and/or other daphnane diterpenoids for skin treatment. The plant extracts and cosmetic preparations are particularly useful for stimulation of the lymphatic system.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A cosmetic preparation for skin treatment, wherein the preparation comprises:
plant extracts from Daphne giraldii and/or from Daphne gnidium; and
said plant extracts contain daphnane diterpenoids in an amount of 0.00001-1 wt % based on the total weight of the cosmetic preparation.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The preparation of claim 1, wherein said plant extracts
are present in an amount of
0.0001-10 wt % in case of crude plant extracts, or
0.00001-5 wt % in case of enriched extracts, or
10 pM-10 mM in case of purified substances of said plant extracts based on the total weight of the preparation;
are obtained by an extraction method using at least one of a solvent and a fluid selected from the group consisting of: a polar solvent, an apolar solvent, and a supercritical fluid, and/or mixtures of CO2 with C1-C3 alcohols or with acetone; and/or
are obtained from one or more of: fresh extracts of the plant's roots, fresh extracts of the plant's green part, dried extracts of the plant's roots, or dried extracts of the plant's green part.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The preparation of claim 1, further comprising one or more cosmetic excipients selected from the group consisting of emollients, moisturizers, thickeners, emulsifiers, colorings, detergents, disinfectants, antioxidants, buffers, matting agents, exfoliating agents, aromas, essential oils, vitamins, UV filters, and extracellular matrix components.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The preparation according to claim 1 formulated as
a liquid formulation; or
a semisolid or solid formulation.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The preparation of claim 1, wherein the daphnane diterpenoids are daphnetoxin.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

The preparation of claim 2, wherein the polar solvent is selected from the group consisting of C1-C4 alcohols, C1-C4 diols, glycerol, acetone, and ethyl acetate, in each case optionally in the presence of water.

### Claim 7 (depends on 2)

The preparation of claim 2, wherein the apolar solvent is selected from the group consisting of C4-C10 alkanes, C1-C2 alkylhalogenides, and C1-C4 dialkylethers.

### Claim 8 (depends on 2)

The preparation of claim 2, wherein the supercritical fluid is CO2.

### Claim 9 (depends on 2)

The preparation of claim 2, wherein the polar solvent is used in the extraction method.

### Claim 10 (depends on 3)

The preparation of claim 3, wherein the extracellular matrix components are selected from the group consisting of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.

### Claim 11 (depends on 4)

The preparation of claim 4, wherein the liquid formulation is a gel, a lotion, a milk, an emulsion, a foam, a spray, or an oil.

### Claim 12 (depends on 4)

The preparation of claim 4, wherein the semisolid or solid formulation is a cream, an ointment, a stick, or a powder.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

A method of cosmetically treating the skin, wherein the method comprises applying to skin in need thereof a preparation according to claim 1.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein skin is treated to stimulate the lymphatic system.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)
