Method and apparatus for executing conditional handover in wireless communication network

A method performed by a base station (BS) in a wireless communication network, comprising:

• transmitting, to a terminal, a Radio Resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message including information indicating the terminal is allowed to transmit preferred state information to leave a connected state;
• and
• in case that the terminal prefers to transition out of the connected state, receiving, from the terminal, assistance information including the preferred state information,
• wherein the preferred state information includes information indicating an idle state, information indicating an inactive state, or information indicating out of the connected state.

A terminal in a wireless communication network, the terminal comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• at least one processor coupled to the transceiver, the at least one processor configured to:
• control the transceiver to receive, from a base station, a Radio Resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message including information indicating the terminal is allowed to transmit preferred state information to leave a connected state,
• identify whether the terminal prefers to transition out of a connected state, and
• control the transceiver to transmit, to the base station, assistance information including the preferred state information in case that the terminal prefers to transition out of the connected state,
• wherein the preferred state information includes information indicating an idle state, information indicating an inactive state, or information indicating out of the connected state.

A base station (BS) in a wireless communication network, comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• at least one processor coupled to the transceiver, the at least one processor configured to:
• control the transceiver to transmit, to a terminal, a Radio Resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message including information indicating the terminal is allowed to transmit preferred state information to leave a connected state, and
• control the transceiver to receive, from the terminal, assistance information including the preferred state information in case that the terminal prefers to transition out of the connected state,
• wherein the preferred state information includes information indicating an idle state, information indicating an inactive state, or information indicating out of the connected state.
