Dynamic region of interest and frame rate for event based sensor and imaging camera

An imaging system, comprising:

• a plurality of event based sensor pixels that output a plurality of event detection signals;
• and
• a plurality of image sensing pixels:
• a processor that:
• determines an identity of an object based on the plurality of event detection signals;
• determines a degree of interest in the object based on the identity;
• and
• selects a subset of the image sensing pixels and a frame rate for the subset of the image sensing pixels based on the degree of interest in the object, wherein the selected frame rate is different for different degrees of interest in the object.

A method for operating an imaging device, comprising:

• receiving a plurality of first event detection signals from pixels in a first pixel group;
• determining a category for a first object using the plurality of first event detection signals;
• determining a degree of interest in the first object based on the category for the first object;
• selecting, from a second pixel group, a first plurality of pixels based on the degree of interest in the first object, wherein the first plurality of pixels in the second pixel group is fewer than all pixels in the second pixel group, and wherein a number of the first plurality of pixels selected from the second pixel group is different for different degrees of interest in the first object;
• activating the first plurality of pixels in the second pixel group;
• and
• receiving at least a second event detection signal from a pixel in the first pixel group while the first plurality of pixels in the second pixel group are activated.
